Diver's Notes

W/ Anh, Laurent & German chap again. Great dive despite headache! V marked thermocline at 12m - below was cold & v murky; worse than UK! Down to 20m, not a lot to see. Back up above the line... wow! Amazing vis, beautiful blue sea & loads of fish. I spotted a flying gurnard (winged!) & Anh was great as usual, pointing out all sorts. Best dive yet :) Headache bad so sat out the 2nd dive.

Species Identified

Dactyloptena orientalis (Cuvier, 1829) (Oriental flying gurnard) Inhabit coastal waters with sandy substrates ; a shallow-living species, benthic in adults; only species found in oceanic islands . Solitary, well-camouflaged and slow-moving . Feed on crustaceans, clams, and small fish. May be caught using ring nets .
