2014-09-20 - Scharendijke, Scharendijke, Netherlands

18m - 49 min

Wreck dive with Shelley. Wrecks: De Rat (The Rat) and De Zeehond (The Seal). First set a compass heading for De Zeehond and completely swam past the first wreck. To the surface, swam to the marker buoy, marked the heading for De Rat, descended along the chain, visited the wreck, then swam past the second wreck as well. To the surface, swam to the marker buoy, etc. That's what you get from 1 meter visibility. The wrecks are teeming with life though!

2014-09-21 - Scharendijke, Scharendijke, Netherlands

22m - 24 min

Wreck with Shelley, Jos and René. Swam out to the marker buoy of Le Serpent through the rolling waves. Descent along the line to the bow. Swam across the deck to the steering hut on the stern in near zero visibility. at the back of the steering hut we find one of the pair that went ahead of us, an inexperienced diver, who was afraid of descending into the black void of the ship's cargo holds after his buddy. I take the lead and guide them back across the deck to the bowline, where we start an ascent. In the middle of the line we are met by René, who, in a tight sediment fog, had swum through the insides of the wreck to the front, hoping to find us there. I'm proud of myself for taking the lead and for getting my two fellow divers out safely in difficult circumstances.

2015-07-21 - Lediwracks Beim Bommerstein, Mols, Switzerland

32.3m - 20 min

A dive almost gone wrong. My first dive in Switzerland and my most educational and impressive dive up to date. A wreck dive, the signature dive of this lake. In 85 degrees we change into full drysuit with everything on top and underneath. I am short of breath and my heart is pounding. I have difficulty getting under and have to put stones in my vest pocket for extra weight. My regulator breathes funny and lets in water. My maskdoes so as well. I push on, I have try and tackle these problems, until I panick and all I want to do is go up. I have never experienced this, I can not get myself to calm down. On the wreck I almost go into deco, I have difficulty letting air out of the suit. With great difficulty, the divemaster I dive with get's me to make a slow ascend along the bottom to the exit point. Afterwards we talk about it at great length and at night the images haunt me. You can't train for this. Another step closer to being an experienced diver. A big thanks to the skills of Manfred Hug for not letting me drown.
