St. Croix Ultimate Bluewater Adventures, US Virgin Islands

(1 review)

We had both been working for an airline right up to the airline closing their doors (or clipping their wings if you will). We loved St. Croix so much we didn’t want to move. We also loved the scuba diving around St Croix (Molly was Ed’s first student). So it was a natural move to open St Croix Ultimate Bluewater Adventures. (And it took a lot of margaritas to come up with that name).

This was Cynthia first dive with out me. She was nervous but I insisted she head on in without me. My ears weren’t cooperating. She was able to film the entire dive and did well. Visibility was good but throughout the dive got a bit silty. She saw a stingray, 2 lobster, a large green moray eel and tons of different reef fish. The dive eased down to the cliffs and dropped off. Lots of crevices and ledges. Plenty of coral.

Awesome afternoon dive. Seen 4 Caribbean Reef sharks up close. Our dive master Will speared two lion fish and we got to watch the sharks eat them. Cynthia seen a turtle and we seen Two Rays. Cynthia and I used Nitrox this dive and other then not feeling tired afterwards we did not notice any difference. I had some issues with my head and ears and ended up getting sick off the side of the boat and could not do the 2nd dive. Cynthia did the 2nd dive without me. This was the first time she dove without me. She did great. We both ended the 1 st dive dive with about 1500 in our tanks.

The beginning of the dive was fine. The current was strong but we were moving with it.. When we explored the wrecks I was trying to move to fast in the current. I slowed down. 3/4 of the way through the dive, we had to swim back against the current, I went from 1600 psi to 600 getting back to the boat. My mask was leaking and I had difficulty maintaining altitude and positioning for the safety stop due to the strong current. Jon remarked that this was probably the second strongest current encountered at the site. There was some weather moving in. The wrecks were great though and everyone had a nice time.

Great instruction

Julie Raschella was our instructor for the open water certification course and she was great. She went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. I couldn't have asked for a better instructor. The other staff members, John and Matt, were also great. They were fun and loose while still maintaining a high level of professionalism. I have scheduled my AOW certification with them for next week, and I would recommend them, especially Julie, to anyone.
