The PADI Divemaster course is the first step in the professional realm of diving (Can you imagine getting paid to go diving?) It teaches students the knowledge and skills to safely lead certified divers, act as an assistant to PADI Instructors, and even independantly teach the PADI Discover Scuba program!

About the Course:

The course involves knowledge development in the areas of dive physics, physiology, equipment, dive skills and the environment, decompression theory and the Recreational Dive Planner. There are also a series of waterskill assessments, dive skill development sessions, and in-water internships.

The internships are the Divemaster candidate’s opportunity to work with our Instructors in a real setting where the prospective Divemaster comes to the pool and ocean with us to help new divers discover the thrill of diving!

The course typically takes 3-6 months depending on how much time you have available to commit to the course. It has a very flexible schedule, which allows you to learn at your own pace. The more courses you intern on, the more you get out of the program.

Prerequisites:

Students must have their Rescue Diver Certification, and a minimum of 40 logged dives to begin The Divemaster Course. Students must have 60 logged dives by the end of The Divemaster Course.

Have you ever thought about diving on Enriched Air (Nitrox) or wondered what Nitrox actually is?

We all know the compressed air we breathe while diving is 79% Nitrogen and 21% Oxygen. Enriched Air means that there is a higher percentage of oxygen, usually anywhere from 21%-40%. Scuba diving with Enriched Air Nitrox gives you longer no decompression dive time. This means more time underwater, especially on repetitive dives. You can typically stay down longer, and get back in the water sooner. Not to mention by lowering the amount of Nitrogen, you reduce your risk of getting the “bends.”

What you’ll learn

*Techniques for getting more dive time by using Enriched Air Nitrox

*Enriched air considerations, including managing oxygen exposure, how to tell what’s in your scuba tank and how to set your dive computer

This is a non-diving specialty. We offer this course through PADI E-Learning, which means you can complete all of the theory in the comfort of your own home, and once you are finished all you need to do is schedule a time with us to come in and meet with an instructor, who will teach you how to properly analyze a tank., and answer any questions you might have had trouble with on your own.

Despite global warming, it will be sometime before our waters are as warm as the tropics. For those who want to experience “cold water diving,” while minimizing the “cold water.”

The Diving Locker offers ongoing PADI Drysuit Courses. Drysuit training is a prerequisite for rentals from The Diving Locker, as well as most other dive facilities.

The PADI Drysuit Specialty includes a book, class and pool session, and two ocean dives (one day of diving), with an Instructor. Upon completion, you will receive a PADI Drysuit Diver Certification card. This certification will allow you to rent and use a drysuit anywhere in the world.

You can also choose to do only the Drysuit Pool Session, which will teach you how to use a drysuit in a confined water setting, and how to handle the changes in buoyancy. Doing the Pool session with us will allow you to rent and use drysuits from The Diving Locker. (You can also choose this option if you wish to upgrade from a wetsuit to a drysuit for one of our courses.)

Underwater photography is one of the most popular diving specialties, and the rise of digital underwater photography has made it easier and more fun than ever. The PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course gets you going quickly with today modern digital equipment, whether you use a point-and-shoot snap camera or a sophisticated D-SLR like the pros.

The Course is a two-part introduction to digital underwater photography. The course will help you develop the knowledge, skills, and practical techniques necessary to capture amazing pictures.

 What You Learn:

* How to choose the right underwater camera system for you.

* The PADI SEA method for getting great shots quickly

* The three primary principles for good underwater photos

Course Price: $339.95 ($289 if you own your own camera)

Course price includes use of all scuba gear (Drysuit upgrade optional), and rental of Sealife DC1400 underwater camera. Personal gear (Mask, snorkel, fins, boots and gloves) can be rented for an additional $30. Drysuit Upgrade can be added for $99.95*

Intro to Scuba

Learn to Dive in Vancouver! Participating in our Intro to Scuba is a great way to introduce new divers to scuba diving in a fun and safe environment. Essentially, it is the very first evening of the PADI Open Water course. It includes a classroom session, as well as an hour of instruction in the pool.

Under the trained supervision of one of our PADI Instructors, you will experience the thrill of breathing underwater and the peaceful tranquility of floating weightless in the aquatic realm!

The Intro to Scuba includes all your equipment for the pool, and can be credited towards the Open Water Course, should you decide to continue on and get certified. The Intro to Scuba runs simultaneously with each Open Water Module 1.

 Course Specifics:We meet at the Diving Locker at 6pm. We begin with an orientation and classroom session, afterwards we head over to UBC for a fun filled evening of diving! We usually finish up around 9:30pm.

As the sun sets, you don your dive gear, slip on your scuba mask and bite down on your regulator. A deep breath and you descend into the underwater night. Although you’ve seen this site many times before, this time you drop into a whole new world and watch it come to life under the glow of your dive light. Join Teresa every Saturday night to explore and experience the magical nocturnal life we have here in our waters.

Meet time is at 5:30pm (at The Diving Locker) and we return around 9:30 pm (depending on traffic).
