The best scuba diving spots in Bermuda:
- The famous Mary Celeste, a 225 feet-long paddle steamer which struck a reef off the south of Bermuda whilst smuggling weapons to the Confederate forces during the American Civil War. One coral-encrusted paddle wheel stands upright while the other has fallen on its side. The wreck is surrounded by numerous caves and tunnels that are the home to many parrotfish and groupers.
- The Hermes is almost fully intact. The hatches have all been removed to make it fully penetrable for diving. It is home to a group of barracuda.
- Not much is left of the Constellation but she makes an eerie dive.
- Tarpon Hole lies off the west of Elbow Beach, and often hosts large schools of tarpon, some in excess of 2m long.
The best snorkeling spots in Bermuda:
From Elbow Beach, vast numbers of tropical fish and marine invertebrates can easily be found. Experienced snorkelers may wish to venture out to the wreck of The Pollockshields.
