Diver's Notes

Dive 5.Cenote Dzonotila.

Near town Mucuyche. Cenote
No sign. Ask permission at gate to enter property. Long drive on dirt road. Park next to old settlement. 200 years old. Chaple and well. Climb down old railway post ladder in our wet suits. Helper lowers BCD and Tanks, fins and weights. The well opens up to huge cave. Complete darkness outside of ladder entry. Gear up. Decend around huge stalagmites, ribbon style, HUGE. Clay colour sediment on ground and ledges. Hardened into tile like formations with spacing in between. Enter larger cave area full of stalagmites and stalagtites. Craw fish, orange, twice. White oval disk with 4 or 6 feelers floating. Black cat fish type fish there too. Shallow circular exit around whole first opening. No treasures.

Noticed I was breathing heavily down there before the dive. I thought I was just excited. Felt the same immediately coming out of the water. Fabian explained the air quality is likely poor down there so he sent us up first.
