2012-09-16 - Blue Heron Bridge (West), Florida West Palm Beach, United States
5.8m - 102 min - Dived with Ham Mason from Jupiter Dive Center
Air dive. 8 lbs in trim and 1 lb in each pocket diving an aluminum 80. Navigation and Peak Performance Buoyancy dive for Advanced Open Water Certification. Did mostly navigation practice after weighting properly. Saw a small wreck and shopping carts. First experience learning to blow bags under water. Dropped the brass double-ender a couple times learning where the D-rings are on all new gear. Dove with a skin suit and started to get a little cold near the end.
2012-09-22 - Bluffs, jupiter, florida, United States
25.6m - 43 min - Dived with Ham Mason from Jupiter Dive Center
EAN 35%. Ending CNS at 15%. First dive with steel 100 and 3/2 shorty. 4 lbs in the pockets as the steel tank adds 6 lbs. The weight in the pockets made it hard to stay horizontal. Will try different weight placements. Practiced staying horizontal and blew bags from 40 or 50 feet. Much warmer with the shorty, but it was getting cold towards the end of the dive because the rain cooled the water towards the surface. The bottom temp was much warmer than the surface. Saw a large Loggerhead turtle with it's head under a ledge. Dive for Advanced Open Water Certification.
2012-09-22 - Mg 111 Barge, Jupiter Florida, United States
20.4m - 45 min - Dived with Ham Mason from Jupiter Dive Center
EAN 35%. Ended with 21% CNS. Dove with an aluminum 80. The shorty was perfect for the temperatures and didn't require extra weight over the half mil skin suit. We saw many VERY large Goliath Grouper (Jew fish). Visibility was very poor and a dive light would have been nice to have. Blew bags from 30 feet (more difficult). MG-111 is a great wreck for diving and was very interesting. Had some troubles equalizing during the dive and afterwards had clogged ear passages. Had a buzzing in the ears later on that day and decided to postpone the next day's dives to the next weekend. Dive for the Advanced Open Water Certification.
2012-09-30 - Captain Mike's, jupiter, florida, United States
28.7m - 42 min - Dived with Ham Mason from Jupiter Dive Center
EAN 36%. Steel 100. Dove with the 3/2 shorty. Had 4 lbs: 2 lbs in the pockets, 2 lbs in the trim pockets. Staying horizontal was easier, but still difficult. Blew bags around 30 feet. Visibility was excellent and the Captain Mike's reef is pretty amazing. Saw lots of small aquatic life. Hit the limit for max 1.4 PPO2 at 94ft (computer beeped). Second to last dive for the Advanced Open Water Diver Certification.
EAN 35%. Steel 100. Dove with all 4 lbs in the trim pockets, which made it MUCH easier to stay horizontal but still not as easy as with the aluminum 80 with 8 lbs in the trim pockets and 2 lbs in the weight pockets. Made it to the Donut Hole and saw a couple reef sharks. One was tagged. Also saw a tag repeater or something (looked like a parking meter). Lots of Goliath grouper and two green turtles. Also practiced swimming a faulty BCD off the bottom. Visibility was describe by some veterans of the site as exceptional. Learned to leave the Puck computer in PF0, not PF1 as dive times are severely shortened. Worked on learning to spin while in the horizontal position and blew bags at around 30 feet. Last dive for the Advanced Open Water Diver Certification.
