Diver's Notes

Mark, Joe, Luke, Alex, Jud and me. Mark Burns buddy. I dove with 29.7% Nitrox.
Chartered
'H2O Below' to take us out to the USS Oriskany (about 28 miles SE of Pensacola).
Seas ran about 3-4'. Mark and I were the first two in and had to wait on the trailing
line for other divers to get in before we went down. I tried to breath from my snorkel,
but kept getting saltwater in my mouth and had a tough time of it. Finally put my
regulator in and waited. I dove with my hood vest and Bare shorty with 18 lbs of
weights, but was a little overweighted and probably would try 16 lbs. next time.
We went hand over hand to mooring line at 40' and begam rapid descent to wreck starting
at 80'. Another boat had lowered their anchor and was trying to snag the wreck by
drifting into it and narrowly missed our group. The divemaster grabbed the anchor
and manuvered it around us - close call. The wreck was loaded with fish - grunts.
One five foot barracuda was wandering around. Saw the two flags, cut tank bell, and
geochaching pvc. Followed Jud and Joe thru upper swim thru by taking left turn out
exit. Visiblility was good. Surfacing was difficult with waves and ladder banging
back and forth. Luke and Alex were both seasick upon surfacing.
