Species Identified

Heteroconger taylori Castle & Randall, 1995 (Taylor's garden eel) Found on silty sand and seagrass bottom. Occurs singly or in small groups . Minimum depth from Ref. 58018.
Heteroconger hassi (Klausewitz & Eibl-Eibesfeldt, 1959) (Spotted garden-eel) Often found on sandy slopes below 15 m; withdraws into its burrow when approached. Usually in colonies containing up to several hundred individuals.
Heteroconger polyzona Bleeker, 1868 (Zebra garden eel) Occurs in shallow water. Burrows of individuals are in pairs, approximately 8 inches apart; with neighboring pairs at least 3-4 times greater apart from each other. Usually in moderate sized aggregations that appear during current runs .
