Diver's Notes

So this was my first dive in about 6 years. And it was a very difficult dive. I had about 20 extra pounds along with the BCD unit.

First off, we went through three regulator hoses before we got one to fit. Once I got into the water I started to panic, I felt I was weighted too much and I couldn't breathe through my regulator mouthpiece.

I had to return to shore and let go about four pounds. My weight felt a bit better in the water, but then my hood felt too tight around my head. Still panicked. I had to take it off.

4 pounds lighter and no headgear, I started to breathe normally, Once I was underwater, I calmed down immediately. I only had slight worries about my air, but I wasn't eating it up too much oxygen for a first time dive.

I made it to a reef where we saw a good collection of fishes, including my favorite fish, young garibalfi, orange with neon blue spots, like teenage acne, but cute. Loved it. It made all that struggle worth it.

On our way out, I lost a flipper (retrieved by my dive master), and I fell once on the shore and then again on steps heading up. It was definitely a struggle to move with an extra 50 pounds on my back and around 16 pounds waist.

Overall, a poor performance by me. But still worth the 26 minutes. I should be back in the water in about two weeks, conditions permitting.
