My first wreck dive, and what a fun one it was! We had a guide to show us around the wreck, which was sunk incorrectly and is upside down with rubble piles to the east. The wreck is N-S oriented. Visibility was reduced a little from storms earlier in the morning churning up the sand and sea. First we explored the rubble next to the east side of the wreck, where we saw a goliath grouper hiding towards the north end. Then we swam through four chambers of the barge, which was a lot of fun and home to several schools of fish. We had some time left so we went a little further east of the wreck to some more rubble/rocks, and there we saw a huge nurse shark (probably 8 or 9 ft)! Overall a very good dive.

A typical reef dive for the area; the reef ran north-south and made for a good easy drift dive. Saw a good variety of fish, corals, and sponges. We ended the dive early because we got a little cold; it was our second dive of the day.

Fun dive, we could have explored the broken down wreck for longer! Accessed the site through Pompano Dive Center and Odyssey Charters with a very fun and helpful crew. It was a rainy morning, but the visibility was pretty good, and swells weren't too big. The wreck covers a good amount of area and was used for target practice in World War II (I was told you could still find bullet shells lying around but I didn't see any). Saw lots of colorful mid-sized and small fish, corals, sponges, spiny lobsters, a moray (we think) eel, and a goliath grouper (which is apparently rare for this wreck).

First dive on Nitrox; it was a good dive site in a lot of open water, but the current was a little strong. The wreck is oriented E-W and the current was running N, so you could tuck under one side of the wreck and get a swimming break. Cargo holds were open for exploring, but the wheel house was precariously perched and we were told not to hang around it too long. We got about 30 minutes of bottom time, which was enough to explore the whole wreck.

The Tracey was a great wreck dive for our last day in Pompano! Sitting at 70ft to the sand, the ship had a lot of marine life inside (schools of fish) and outside (sponges, corals, marine invertebrates) to look at. The visibility was just over 40ft, and there was a slight south current, maybe about 1.5 knots. We had a big group diving with us today but we were all able to spread out around the wreck. The best feature was the open, mid-level canopy that you could swim through; bubbles would get trapped in places under the canopy and create a mirror effect that was really cool.

A good reef dive to finish off the week because we finally saw a sea turtle! It was the deepest reef of the week, and a nice easy drift dive as we were pushed south down the reef by the current. We had four people to our flag and the reef ridge was relatively narrow so we could essentially move down it together in a line. It was a good dive to practice buoyancy control and trim. It was the second dive of the day and a very relaxing one at that.
