Trying to work on underwater navigation, with very limited visibility. Digital compass kept taking me into a left turn, going in circles, and buddy had challenges also. Need to re-calibrate and try it again. If it continues, send it in for servicing/inspection. Focused on finning technique so confident it wasn't that. Another cool dive, hovered around the thermocline while swimming, then spent some time at a platform working on hovering technique until got too cool from sitting still. Frustrating dive, but still...got to get wet! Merged 3 shorter dives together from one entry into the lake.

Back to cooler water. Finding weighting w/7mm suit, hood and gloves. Was light at end of the previous dive in 7mm at 18# so started with 22#. Way too much. Worked way back down to 18#, to find out tank was a neutral 100 tank... Will need to keep working proper weighting for this suit, as the near zero vis created some anxiety, along with digital compass issues. Buddy had some challenges with mask/hood so we ascended a few times to work that out. Still, finally a good dive in the end, following the quarry wall around to the North. Just a comfort dive, no real sights. Merged 3 shorter dives together from one entry into the lake.

Recreational dive to get more comfortable with new gear (7mm suit, gloves, hood) and use of lights. Air consumption a bit high due to some anxiousness for going deeper than previous 35', and having little PT in a number of weeks. Became more comfortable in breathing rate about 1/2 in, after reaching max depth. Comfortable in Reactive 7mm. Hands were chilled in 3mm gloves, but not exceedingly so. 1st Nitrox dive also. Felt much better at the end and after the dive. Needed to hand over hand to get to depth at beginning, but no buoyancy issues during the dive. At teh end, had to hold onto mooring lines for safety stop. Need to add another 2# or swap to steel tank next time, AND do a solid buoyancy check with an empty cylinder...

Excellant Instructors!
We had three instructors work directly with our group of 4 over the weekend (Aubri, Kathy & Ron). They were awesome. They took plenty of time to help those struggling with certain skills when needed, while continuing to make good use of time for those able to perform them (e.g. buoyancy work, nav work, etc.). Very friendly and easy to work with as they were able to effectively communicate the learning objectives and how to execute the skills. As an instructor previously in my own field, I was impressed with their abilities, and my wife and I will certainly be returning to CEA for more advanced training!
