  • I was introduced to diving in the late 1980's as a teenager doing resort courses in Tortola, BVI with my Dad, a certified avid diver. Freshman year of college in 1991 I was NAUI certified. After college my life got busy fast with land based pursuits and I stopped diving altogether after 1994. In 2011 my 2nd husband and I honeymooned in Grand Cayman and did an intensive 3 day resort course with 5 boat dives. I loved it, my husband loved the adventure aspect but diving really pushed his envelope physically (he has never spent much time in water whereas I grew up in pools and oceans) and he injured his ear by not listening to his body. Again, our lives were focused on other things. This past June we vacationed with family in St. Maarten and I finally got to dive with my Dad again. He'd given it up due to health issues a few years prior but we did a shallow shore dive (35 feet) with a resort class and he gave it a shot. It was lovely to dive with him again and I was sad when he announced afterwards that it had been his last dive (he struggled more than he felt comfortable). I was re-inspired to re-commit to this pursuit while I'm young and strong enough to get the most out of it. Instead of just doing a refresher course I decided to start over with certification, PADI this time, just to be safe. Just took my final exam on the knowledge portion, will do my pool work next week, and OW dives in Negril, Jamaica the first week of October, 2015.
