2012-04-14 - Dee Why Wide, Sydney, Australia

26.6m - 30 min - Dived with Abyss Scuba Diving

1st dive of my Deep Diver Speciality Course run by Sam. We had a couple of divers doing their deep component of the advanced course on this dive. One of these divers had trouble equalising as is evident in the dive profile (13 minutes to get to the bottom). All cool we got their and Sam showed us the effect that depth has on colour. We had a bit of a look around and it was time to surface. Did a deep stop at 10mtrs and I was happy with my buoyancy control for that stop - I did struggle at the 5mtr stop however. Something to work on. Dee Why Wide definitely needs some further investigation. Looks to be a very cool dive and apparently a number of caves around. Henry from Scubaholics (the boat operator) has promised a guided tour down the track. This dive was also the 1st dive of 2 for my Nitrox Certification.

2012-04-14 - Centurion, Sydney, Australia

18.7m - 39 min - Dived with Abyss Scuba Diving

2nd dive of both my Deep and Nitrox courses - the Centurion is the skeletal remains of a collier that sand back in 1887 off quarantine head in Sydney. Not allot remains however you can still make out the framework and it definitely attracts allot of marine life. Sam had us complete some navigation off into the sand - so no visual navigation aids; just a compass and kick cycles... A pretty easy task we were given maybe 15mtrs out of visibility of our start point - turn around and head back to the start point. Large Morey Eel, some Wobbegong and lots of fish life - site is more than easy to explore in 30 mins... Nice dive - although not high on the do again list.

2012-04-15 - Doubt Reef, Sydney, Australia

40.8m - 25 min

Third dive on our Deep course and time to look at the effects of Nitrogen Narcosis - so 1st step descend ot 40mtrs, 2nd step Sam gives me a basic maths problem to solve on her slate... I got it right but I think it was obvious to everyone that we were not thinking clearly and our reaction times were diminished. A bit of a look around and it was time to head up... Completing a deep stop at 19mtrs and around 8 mins at 5mtrs to simulate a 5min decompression stop + 3 minute safety stop. This also gave us time to give the pony bottles a test run. I would like to check this reef out a little more- there are apparently drop offs, overhangs and caves at the shallower side of this one... Maybe start at the 40mtrs and work reasonably quickly up to the shallower side of things apparently around 32mtrs - finish with an ascent on SMB's for pickup...

2012-04-15 - The Colours, Sydney, Australia

27.9m - 37 min - Dived with Abyss Scuba Diving

Final Dive on our deep course. We split into our buddy groups and we planned our own dive. Looking at depth, air consumption and no-stop time. We dived 'The Colours' and it was a great site - reminded me of the pinnacle in Forster. Sam handed out Chocolate on the bottom for us to eat. Difficult task underwater.
