Nice first weekend dive on the James. It really has broken up a lot more than before....a bulkhead has fallen down to expose what must be the compressor room underneath the engine room. Very cool. Saw a dogfish fairly early On during the dive and took a video but visibility dropped off as the silt that everyone had kicked up drifted by. Worked our way all the way along the prop shaft to where it Peters out. Luckily found the line that leads off to the stern. That seems to have been pretty smashed up too but has a good load more life on it than the main wreck. Also a big cog wheel which looked like it might have been from a gun turret but not sure the ship had one. Felt very lopsided during the dive and my right knee was hurting from finning on the side..... Turned out that I hadn't put my trim weights in! Silly mistake. Nice dive with Mark overall though.
Even more life on this wreck than last time. Looking really decent as a wreck and not as silty as had worried. Good few swim-throughs and lots of ballan wrasse to keep us company. Tonnes of dead mens fingers, plumose anemones and now a wide range of jewel anemones in different colours. New torch had flooded though :-(
Epic day of off-white diving... Two great pinnacles off the Plymouth coast. Had a lovely dive with Nessa. Lots and lots of fish on the dive. Cuckoo and ballan wrasse galore plus a pair of dogfish. Very nice viz in the water which meant you could easily see the jewel anemones everywhere. Hand deeps Wow. Really pleased to get on this site at last and what a treat. Great viz and a stunning wall that must have gone from 20m to 35m at least. Beautiful jewel and plumose anemones as well as lots of dead mens fingers. With so much big yellow sponge this brought tonnes of colour to the dive

Perfect ccr diving today. Being a mainly flat bottom and having got my weighting right (3kg in the trim pockets) meant I could just cruise over the wreck. Worked out way from middle to bow then back to the stern section. Saw the the masts and lots of other cool wreckage. Lots of bib, pollack and congers all over the place. The nicest sight was seeing each of the fallen plates covered in masses of pink fan coral..... Each looked like it's own individually tended garden. Down under the steering gear had formed a lovely cave, where a large school of fish were hanging out. Lovely lighting in there so hope it comes out on the video.
Dogfish central!! Lovely visibility so it was such a great time to just cruise over the granite typology looking at all the nice sponges, crabs, wrasse and dog fish.
Lovely and calm out on the water again today but a cold northerly breeze. Diving on single open circuit tank as taking Duana in. Was remarkably okay being back on noisy bubble making equipment... Although I really notice how dry my mouth gets now. Had a bit of a nature dive this time around on the wreck. Duana very keen to see the wildlife rather than the wreck itself. So we spotted lots of starfish, tompot blennies and fish life. Found a nice docile pipe fish at one point which was a bit of a treat. Chuffed with my air consumption too given my lack of practice.... 40+ mins and still 70 bar left!!
Back with Mark on the unit for the last dive of the trip..... And made sure to maximise my scrubber time :-) Spend vast amounts of time inside the wreck working our way through corridors, down hatches and through plenty of different little rooms. Saw a cool part of the engine room which I'd not been in before. Where the engine clearly translated the power into the prop shafts. Very cool room with a big control panel in it. There's an easy entrance to it from the starboard side underneath the keel that I'll have to remember for future. We also looked in under the stern section where I lost mark when he started following Michelle instead!! But generally worked our way up forward inside the wreck. Rounded the bow and came along the other side. I had a slightly funny moment when I could taste the scrubber chalkiness plus then felt very out of breath then had a hot flush..... Very strange. Told mark to watch out for me but then it cleared as we ascended back onto the deck level. Had a good 15 further mins investigating the warm shallow parts around the hangar and bridge. Really turning into a lovely wreck with lots and lots of life over the surface now. And even inside too.... Plenty of pink sea fans growing in the corridors even. Great to see so many of them about on this trip. Great visibility again on the dive.... Maybe 7-8 metres as it had been for most of the trip. Really lucky to get it so good and with flat seas too. A very very good Bovi trip overall!!
