Diver's Notes

The wreck of the S.S. Keystorm is located in the St. Lawrence River in U.S. waters, 1 mile Northwest of Oak Island and 1 mile south east of Signer Castle.

The S.S. Keystorm was built in Great Britain in 1909-1910 for the Keystorm Transportation Co. in Montreal. She was a cargo steamer, 258 feet long with a 42.5 foot beam and a displacement of 2300 ton.

This dive was difficult. It was my first time with a drysuit and my dad's second time with his suit. I learned an important lesson, drysuits are not meant for high current. They are a sail in high current. Moreover, my buoyancy was off. Too much or too little air was difficult to figure out. My dad was not comfortable during this dive. He had a harder time than I with the suit. At one point, he shot up to the surface because he couldn't free up his air bubble in the suit. Visibility was also horrible. Many suspended particles and horrible visibility.

Carolyn was with Alden for this dive. He did a great job with her. Kept her calm and showed her things. They both had a wetsuit on. She loved this dive. We saw a giant white fish. We don't know what kind it is but we figure it's actually called a White Fish. On one side of the boat, there were many many medium size fish. Bass and pickerel. Also lots and lots of gobies.

For some reason, my very old BC would not inflate using the button underwater. I had to inflate it manually underwater by exhaling into it. I also practiced going upside down to see how it feels to have air stuck in my feet.

Oh and funniest story of life!! Dad was a Michelin man going into water. He was too hot in hit suit so he inflated it and his BCD and could not put on his fins!!! So when he jumped in the water, he was rolling around like an over inflated balloon. Mom pissed her pants laughing and we didn't get it on video in time.

I had just the right amount of weight on me. Not too much air in my suit. My dad didn't have enough weight and had to inflate his suit allot more.
