I am a marine biologist with a Masters of Science in Marine Science, a passion for teaching, and interested in plastic marine debris impacts on marine wildlife. I love snorkeling, free diving, and scuba diving. I am most at peace when I am beneath the waves, and I am always up for an adventure.

2014-08-20 United States Horseshoe/Rainbow/Turtle Reef (Oahu, HI)
This was a fun dive, Eduardo brought out stale corn chip crumbs and had the block trigger fish swarming for us. We had a few novice divers (uncertified and beginners), and a couple of them were dragging and bouncing along on the bottom so I helped them adjust the air levels in their BCDs, no need to crawl along on the bottom damaging the reef when you are wearing the gear you need to SCUBA properly, even if you don't remember/know how to use it. The black long spiny sea urchins were spawning, I saw lots of Christmas tree worms, and the usual goat fishes, lizard fish, and humuhumunukunukuapua'a.

Turtle CanyonMy peak performance buoyancy dive was pretty easy. All the practice that the previous 10 dives gave me really helped, and although I did catch my tank on the top hoop I repeated the maneuver without a problem. I love the huge pincushion starfish at this dive site, and I saw the cutest little blue spotted cowfish.

NautilusSaw two white-tip reef sharks under the overhang, and this time no seasickness thanks to a dramamine the night before and 1 hour before diving.

NautilusDiving with Robert today we did our navigation training. I have heard my friends who are dive instructors laughing about students who mess it up really badly and they have to go looking for them, or do it with them step by step so they can pass. I am guessing they didn't explain how to use the compass properly and the students didn't study the book because the tasks were very easy, and I had no problem making my square. The visibility impeded me from seeing Bob from the far corners of my square so it was a real relief when I made my third turn and headed straight back and he was right where I left him. Then we explored the reef and I saw two, count them TWO frog fish! They are my favourite! One was mottled brown and green and the other was yellow. Such cool fish. Bob was very sad that I didn't call him over and show him, seems he loves them too.
