Great Corals, not much marine life.

This dive was at Hol Chan which is a marine reserve. As soon as we hit the water we were only 10 ft deep to the floor. There was a large moray eel passing under me as soon as I went down. This was a shallow dive overall but the combination of corals and fish was amazing. We started heading out through the cut then crossed over the the other side and returned towards the boat. When we crossed over to return we noted that it would have been nice to go further... We come to find out later from the dive master that a couple people were lost due to the current a while back and they don't go out to far from where we were. This dive was great for marine life, lots of large grouper, nurse sharks, rays, large schools of fish. moray eels, and lobster. We went and snorkeled "Shark and Ray alley" (not allowed to dive it, marine park rules). There were a frenzy of nurse sharks and rays when we hit the water as the waters were being chummed. It was surreal as dozens of sharks and rays grazed by sometimes bumping into me. One ray came right at me and I had to hold him and push him away as he went for my camera...

Beautiful dive... Shot some video with the helmet cam. Best memory was a large barracuda came out from a deep trench that we were exploring and swam slowly by me within 5 feet. There were at least 4 barracuda spotted on this dive. The dive started with a great swim through, it was tight, dark, and about 50 feet in length... it opened out into a trench with a large sandy bed and 2 coral walls on either side that stretched up abut 60 feet. This dive started then stopped real quick as the dive shop folks did not put any weight into Todd and Sarah's BC from the day before. Normally we would do it but they stored and prepared our gear as part of their service. We got in the water and both Sarah and Todd could not go down... we got back in the boat and they did not have enough extra weight on board... we were the only divers on this boat so we had to go back to shore and get weight. It was an interesting experience...

Great swim throughs... Dive master found an anchor and retrieved it, I picked up 2 plastic bags covering coral... just doing my part! One large barracuda.
Wow!!! We had a blast with about a dozen sharks feeding on a sandy bed in the midst of coral walls. The dive master chummed the area and it was a magical 10 minutes while the largest marine life in the area had a feeding frenzy. Some large grouper, nurse sharks, and one very confrontational Moray Eel. All the marine life was super tame and brushed against us as they moved in and about the pack. Amazing!!! Sarah saw the eel regurgitate and hacked up what she said "resembled a hair ball".

The rock formations were amazing and we saw 3-5 reef sharks. Sarah experienced her first Narc episode and she described it as a calm freak out, like she was so stoned that the panic that she experienced was all in her head as she looked like the coolest coconut fish out there. It was at that point she saw the reef sharks... mentioning later that she could "die happy"!

At the end of the dive the dive master gave us a bottle of chum and we passed it around. There were so many fish that you could not see through them, they surrounded the bottle holder in a vortex, circling looking for food. This disoriented both Sarah and I as she held the bottle she sank about 20 feet and when I had the bottle I almost surfaced. It's like the fish pulled us. Next time I need to keep track of my depth when I don't have a visual reference. The vortex of fish were beautiful and sometimes would mistake fingers for food and gently nibble on them. Quite an amazing experience!
