Secret Bay, Gilimanuk, Bali First dive in Secret Bay. Managed to hire tanks from the beach. Awesome. I have a bit of a cold so a bit of trouble with my ears. Lots of things sunk in the water including Pots, Crates and other structures. Saw Crocodile head, File Fish, Big Pufferfish, Boxfish, Batfish, Anemone Fish, Baby Sweetlips (wriggling its bum), my first Cuttlefish and loads more fish. Didn't do second dive as had sore ears.
First dive with Canon 7D. Vis wasn't great at the start of the dive but got better. Saw Frog Fish and Simon found a Sea Cucumber with Emperial Shrimp on it. But I didn't see the shrimp and I hurried Simon along as was just hanging around waiting. Oops. When we got back to shore he showed me the blurred photos of the shrimp. Saw 4 Sea Moths, Frog Fish, Coral Crabs, lots of puffer and batfish.
Better vis on this dive but started to get dark by the end of the dive. Started at the boat and had a look around there. Lots of sand with hidden creatures and dead coral. Not very pretty. Headed back across the bay, followed a scorpion/lionfish with pretty blue wings and saw loads of catfish hiding in the pots, all spilling over each other to get out.
Early morning dive, Botol came down early for us to bring the tanks. Nice and sunny and high tide. Perfect!! Went to the first structure on the left and saw 2 little frog fish (one black and one orange). I looked around the structure and was like 'nothing to see here' and then Simon found the 2 frog fish. Spent most of the dive on the structures and then I found the sea cucumber with the 2 bright Emperial Shrimp on them. I took photos of 3 types of eels with their heads poking just out of the sand while Simon photographed the shrimps for ages. I accidentally stirred up the water and the cucumber floated upside down...oops. Simon was annoyed but then realised he could now get a better photo of the shrimp as they were now on top. yay. Enjoyed my camera today.
Didn't really feel like the dive but really enjoyed it. Earlier I had done my 400mtr swim for DMT (took 12 min!) so only got 2 points. Also spent the dive partially mapped for my DMT sitemap. Saw 3 Lionfish on the pots, 2 cuttlefish, Anemonie Fish, Bat Fish, Blue Star fish, and just loads of fish, crabs and shrimp. Really fun long dive. Hopefully some good pics.
I did my dive site mapping on this dive with the compass and slate. Really good vis which made it a lot easier. Had to do depth, compass points and distance. There are A LOT of structures in Secret Bay so a lot to map. Saw 3 Frog Fish and a bunch of juvenile catfish feeding. Tried to do tired diver tow for DMT at the end but Simons BCD kept flipping him over!
Our last dive at Secret Bay. Was low tide so vis was terrible. So we mosied out over the sand to look for critters. I had the Go Pro but it wouldn't turn on (more like the Go Sometimes). Saw Sea Moths, Leaf Fish, Barracuda, then we came across a coral reef that they are trying to grow. Tables and tables of bits of coral. It has been growing for 1 year. Also at the start of the dive I saw a sea snake pop it's head out of the water in front of me then swim away. Simon gutted not to have seen it. Bye Secret Bay!!
Went on a dive charter with kubuku Dive in Permuteran. Only 4 of us & the guide (Hari) on the boat. The other 2 divers hadn't dived much so they didn't last long. Out to Menjangan Island. Nice wall. Vis not as good as I had hoped but the guide found me a tiny nudi and a tiny tiny Hairy Squat Lobster (little purple hairy crab). Pretty cool. Then at the end of the dive with 50bar of air left and only 5 min until deco he found me 2 Pygmy Seahorse!! Took a couple of quick snaps before heading back to the boat.
Shore dive at Puri Jatti - Seririt. Had to take all our dive gear on the scooter 30 min from Lovina. Simon was wearing his wetsuit and BCD and I had the pack and BCD on. Good vis and very much muck diving. Saw 3 squid, garden eels, flounder, Mantis shrimp (just it's eyes) and lots of tiny crabs and shrimp in the coral.
Another shore dive. I practiced some of my divemaster skills at the surface before the dive - ready to descend (SORTED) and bouyancy check. This dive wasn't as interesting as the only different things we saw were 2 nudie (black and white stripe with purple and orange frill) and feeding trevally. Did practice of free flow reg, reg retrieval, out of aire and reg in and out.
