2013-08-10 - Wreck Saint Thomas, zonqor, Malta
21.3m - 45 min - Dived with Anchor Diving Malta
First dive on Malta, have been storming so the visibility is bad but still as good as it gets in Sweden. Swims to the wreck that is an old pilot boat. For me that haven't seen more than one wreck before it's really nice! We swim through the bridge and swim around the wreck Saint Thomas. I see a lot of different fishes that i don't know the name of, i'll check the video footage and see if I can ad them later. The only species I know the name of and that i saw is fireworm. Did I forget to say... yes I did, my first cocktail dive!!! Just love the water temperature!!!
First we miss the wreck but we find it on the way back. The wreck that is just called 10 is an old pilot boat and quite small. We swim around for a bit and then head back to the beach. Saw some sort of scorpion fish and fireworms
2013-08-11 - Mv Karwela Wreck, Gozo Island, Malta
37.5m - 37 min - Dived with Anchor Diving Malta
Because of previous days storms our dive guide choose this location since it should provide good cover for big waves. We enters at the rocky beach by a ladder and the did a surface swim for about 20 meters before submersion, then we swam quite shallow to save bottom time until we spotted the wreck, as we did we descended to the wreck. on the way down you could see a myriad of beautiful silver shimmering air bubbles coming out of the wreck, almost like it was alive. First thing on the wreck we did a penetration going through it stern to prow. In the middle of the ship there was a beautiful staircase between the different decks. Linda got a bit exalted, later on she told me she recognized it from an award winning photo. After the swim through we circled the deck for a while but since it was a deep dive on regular air we didn't have much time - it was all worth it tho, but next time I will do it with nitrox. On the way back we did a short swim over the Camino land wreck and then headed for the beach, when it became more shallow we explored the fauna and fish life.
2013-08-11 - Camino Land Wreck, Gozo Island, Malta
37.5m - 36 min - Dived with Anchor Diving Malta
As the last dive we went in by the ladder, this time we did a surface swim for about 40 meters then we submerged to find our self's just at a drop off to about 45 meters. We went down to about 15 meters and followed the the edge of the drop off for a while, then we headed outward for the wreck. On the wreck we do a short penetration and starts to swim around the outer deck. I notice that my time before deco is running out on the computer but Linda then go down a couple of meters, when i follow to notify her of my little problem it of course goes into deco. We signal to the dive guide and then go up to about 15 meters again and head for the beach. The deco indicator goes away after a couple of minutes and we continue to explore the shallow bottom near the beach.
2013-08-12 - P31, Comino Island, Malta
19.2m - 51 min - Dived with Anchor Diving Malta
We go by an old fishing boat to the dive site and as soon as we jump into the water we could see the wreck! We descended straight downward to the wreck straight away. Then we penetrate the wreck according to our dive instructors instructions, from the stern to the prow. We needed to use our flashlights in one part of the wreck since it was quite dark. In the darkness some sort of big grouper lurked. Outside of the wreck Linda did the Titanic move at the prow and of course I had to follow her example! I did see a squid at the bottom as well - but it was to quick for my camera. As we are about 30 meters of the wrecks port side we hear a strange sound and turn to the wreck. There we can see a ship that is stuck with it's anchor to the ship, trying to pull loos in every possible direction. We tried to swim to the most favorable spot for not getting hit by the anchor.
2013-08-12 - Santa Maria Caves, Comino Island, Malta
16.2m - 50 min - Dived with Anchor Diving Malta
First off there were some fish feeding, after that we followed our guide through the Santa maria caves. The caves where more of passages under the Camino island and they weren't that long either, never got really dark. It was really beautiful to see how the light played in the openings of the caves and on one place where there was a small hole in the roof of the cave - here the micro bubbles of air with the combined light looked better than reality! We also saw a octopus, it spotted us as well and didn't seem to be overly exalted by the look of it.
2013-08-13 - Blue Hole, Gozo Island, Malta
25.6m - 46 min - Dived with Anchor Diving Malta
As all other divers we entered the blue hole and descended downwards to a cave in the bottom of the hole. The cave had a circular formation and was quite big. I would estimate about 25 meters in diameter. Not much life or anything else to see in the cave. We headed out of the cave and took to the left on the wall. The depth was according to the guide about 50 meters. Diving the wall we did see some jacks, small fishes in schools and some parrot fishes. The underwater fauna was really beautiful as well and all as all I really enjoyed the dive.
2013-08-13 - Inland Sea, Gozo Island, Malta
31.1m - 42 min - Dived with Anchor Diving Malta
We do a surface swim to the left side of the entrance to the tunnel and submerge. We follow the left side of the wall in the tunnel on a couple of meters depth, most part of the tunnel is dark and we use flashlights. When we arrive at the opening to the sea the water turns magically blue and you can see a lot of silhouettes of divers going in front of you and on the bottom sand that is completely white. We take left and follow the wall, the dive is like the blue hole dive earlier on the day.
2013-08-14 - Um El Faroud Wreck, Malta Island, Malta
30.5m - 52 min - Dived with Anchor Diving Malta
We did a surface swim for about 200 meters until we arrived at a cape, then we descended to a depth between 10-15 meters and went for the wreck of Um el-Faroud. All of a sudden what would show to be the starboard stern of the wreck. The share size of the wreck amazed me and i was really thrilled to get closer. When we got to the stern we saw a moray. We continued along the deck from the stern and after a while we penetrated the wreck following our guide. we went through it and followed the staircase several floors up. We went through the dining area and the kitchen. On the way back Linda tried to give a eremite crab a new home - he checked it but decided to continue with the skinny dipping. When we submerged a local asked if we could fetch his snorkel from the bottom, Linda saved the day! The dive was really exiting! Since i was last of the three I had to enjoy the fireworms raining down around me - There and then I descided not to go with a shorty again.
2013-08-14 - Um El Faroud Wreck, Malta Island, Malta
30.8m - 51 min - Dived with Anchor Diving Malta
At the wreck again we explored the prow part of the wreck. The wreck had been split on the half in an storm, and this was after it was sunk. The guide said the waves had reached the cafe on the top of the hill on the cape. The guide showed the spot where an explosion inside the wreck while in dry dock had ripped her open and killed several workers. We continued over the prow and down along it, there we spotted a ray. On the way back we swam along the reef and saw one more moray and a lot of urchins and a really nice fauna. Regretfully the last dive of the diving holiday to Malta but not the last one - we really enjoyed it!
