Brule Rd. QuarryFirst dive of the season, My Reg set is still in being serviced. It has been in there for 2 ½ months. Still waiting for a part. Northern Tech diver has been nice enough to lend me set because mine is taking so long. Canada day, blue skies, high 80s, a beautiful day. This means the quarry is going to be packed, and it is. Other divers as well were there, two groups at least. It never ceases to amaze me. Every time I come here I see something I’ve never seen before. Today we came across a cabin cruiser. I’ve never seen it before on previous dives. I don’t know how I missed it ? this is a tiny quarry. Unless some one has recently added it to the quarry? I got a few good picks at least, hopefully they will turn out. I came across some bullhead today too, usually only see perch. All and all a great day. Good weather. Fun relaxing dive day.

Simcoe IslandNot the most visually exciting of dives. However as they are check outs we actually had to some skills testing that was required for certification. So for our last dive we headed Shallow water of Simcoe Island to do our mask clearing and such. The water was petty clear here off the point of Simcoe. Rebeccas' ears cleared up for the last dive, and she flew through her skills testing... as did I. The remainder of the day was spent swimming in formation like a bunch of Geese checking out the fish. Spotted more bass, and Perch. Also got to see a couple of big Karp as well this time. All and all a pretty relaxing end to our testing. the only thing left to do now is find a decent picture to send in for my C-Card. Great day, I'm whipped.

2006-08-31 Canada Loughborough Lake
Loughborough Lakewell made it back into the water today. I went with some people I know. A couple of us went diving, while the others decided to go fishing. It was just a practice dive more than anything. We were all relatively new divers, me being the newest. The plan was just to dive at 20-25 foot range and work on some basic skills. However the part of the Lake we were diving in was pretty littered with downed trees so we moved out a bit deeper to avoid getting hung up on anything. Had two firsts today. one being the the first time I ever tried navigating by compass, The second was diving while towing a dive marker along behind me. Also hit a thermocline which was a shock to the system. The temperature dropped about15 degrees in 2 feet. It got real cold real fast. I should have wore a hood. Next time for sure. Other than that I saw a lot of fish, Now I know why my other friends wanted to go there.

The Prince RegentMy second dive of the day is a war of 1812 wreck called"The Prince Regent" Another beginner dive. It sits in about 14-20 feet of water. Not very deep. Again I had some buoyancy issues. I think it had more to do with the shallow depth of the water. I dropped four pounds of weight from earlier, and it seems to have helped. I was fine once I got past about 12 feet.I think for tomorrow,I'll keep the weight off. The dive was a bit clearer than the first, but there is a lot less boat traffic at this site. The visibility was better as well. I saw more fish this time. Bass, Perch, and mud pout. The ship was a bit more spread out, and a bit more varied in depth. It wasn't just laying flat. I enjoyed this more than my first dive. I can't wait until tomorrow!!! with a little luck; I'll be certified by this time tomorrow. Rebecca was my dive buddy again for this dive. I'm sure diving with someone you've come to trust has made it easier.
