  • Had an intro dive on the Great Barrier Reef in 1998, loved it, so went up to Darwin to visit a mate for a couple of weeks and do my Open Water certificate.
From there I spent a week in Indonesia, then a few more dives in Brisbane and my Advanced Open Water and Wreck Specialty certificates.

After that I moved to the UK, where it's too cold to go into the water.

Finally got some diving in again when I visited Heron Island with a mate in 2012. Now trying (and failing) to go diving at least once a year.

Just moved to Tokyo in 2018 and have picked diving up again. I even decided to bite the bullet and get my own BCD & Regulator and this has been a great incentive to go diving more often - nearly every weekend so far!

Buddy-dived with Phil, but tagged along with Florine and Shengnan. Florine had told us about a great site with large soft coral. Had to wait a little while for Shengnan to sort out her buoyancy, then for a first stop we headed to the postbox. I posted a card to Tanya and another card which I had taken down from another diver and nearly lost! We then swam to the cave, had a poke around that, then kept going. I was a little confused because when we looked at the map, Florine had insisted that was the spot. We kept following Florine until Shengnan was down to 110 bar, at which point I signalled that I would take Shengnan back, but it got lost in translation and the entire group turned around. Found a huge anemone with lots of clownfish, a couple of the standard ones and a big group of the smaller black-and-white ones. I had always thought these were the young, but Florine later said they're a different species. We then spent a very long time at ~5m; in retrospect we should have spent some more time elsewhere as we all came back with over 60bar left.
