Diver's Notes

Extra dive of the day. This is the site Ben originally wanted to take us on in the morning, but the access road was washed away in a recent typhoon, so it was a very long walk from the nearest parking option.

The entry is in a shallow rock pool and then swimming over a ledge (timing the waves) where the depth immediately plummets to 5m or so. We had fairly calm conditions so not too bad, but it can be a very tricky entry/exit.

From there we followed a set of underwater cables to the right, along various volcanic formations, until we reached a big sandy area spanned by a massive volcanic arch. The arch is very impressive and an easy swim-through. We spent a bit of time here taking photos and videos.

By leaving the cliffs to our left we picked up the cables again and followed them back to the entry. Along the way is an artificial breakwater made of huge concrete blocks which offer some interesting swimthrough possibilities as well.

There were also lots of fish and coral about so overall probably the best dive of the day.

Afterwards a quick soak in the nearby onsen!
