11m - 45 min - Dived with Teo from Island Scuba

A lovely return to diving. Teamed up with Kevin and led by Teo. First wreck dive, the Cypriot freighter Thermopylae, sunk in 2012. Amazing marine live and nice cruisy diving along the deck, from around 7m-11m.

Another cruisy dive, this time slightly deeper at the stern of the ship, descending near the bridge of the ship. Plenty of exploring and some beautiful marine life. Felt more relaxed this time.

31m - 34 min - Dived with Michael from Island Scuba

An amazing dive. Pretty stressful getting in as it was murky and I was joining the very experienced Vista El Mar group from Norfolk. But Michael was a strong guide and he looked after me. Within a minute or two of descending the line, a 6m whale shark emerged from the darkness and swam very close to us. before we knew it there were two of them, occasionally swimming together. We were within maybe 4 metres of them, watching them glide past, loaded up with remora and accompanied by yellow pilotfish. Spent about ten minutes with these incredible creatures. So graceful and tame and gigantic. Had to share air with Michael at the end as running low.

25m - 41 min - Dived with Michael from Island Scuba

Another incredible dive. We straight away saw one of the whale sharks again, who swam closer to us. He circled me and I came within 2 metres. Michael even grabbed his fin and rode him for 10 seconds before being whipped away with a powerful swish of his tail. The dive was aborted first time around, we reached 10 metres before Michael realised our anchor had broken loose and we had drifted. We had to re-dive which made me feel nervous at first. However we still got a good 30 minutes out in the second attempt, although starting the dive with 180bar didn't feel good considering how much I was gulping the air down.

27m - 34 min - Dived with Teo from Island Scuba

Had real trouble equalising today, between 5-11m. Used a lot of air. Got down to 50bar and told Teo, she was busy with the anchor and so I started ascending with buddy Ros. Almost ran out of air at 5m and had to share air. Finished on almost 0 bar!

25m - 39 min - Dived with Teo

A lovely dive. Very relaxing. Practised my hover (did well this time) and estimated my kick length using a line (probably approx. 10 metres so 1m/kick). Improvement in Peak Performance Buoyancy. Breathing was more relaxed but still gulped down compared to others. great visibility and a beautiful wreck. JCB digger upended in middle of wreck. Apparently was sunk during Civil War after discovered bringing equipment to the LTTE.

2017-03-13 - House Reef, Colombo, Sri Lanka

13.4m - 32 min - Dived with Teo from Island Scuba

My final Advanced Open Water dive. Just me and Teo went out to House Reef, a rather barren reef about 500m off the beach at Lavinia. Some interesting sea life though. Teo was smacked in the head by a very large and very angry triggerfish protecting its lair. Did my Underwater Navigation - straight line and then square, 10 kicks each way, did very well and got the compass use straight off. Had a very relaxing swim around to check out the reef. Relaxing and nice way to finish the course. Weight config: 1kg each front side; 2 kg single on back; 2 kg on tank.
