- Christopher Coutu's trip Cozumel 2023
Using shorty for the 1st 2 dives, but then, just a t-shirt. 8lbs seemed ok but a little light considering aluminum tanks but perfect (or even a little heavy) w/o shorty. beautiful reef with channels and swim thrus that we had to nearly crawl thru. Nelly scratched her head on a coral and some dude kicked up so much sand that everything went dark. saw a few big Barracuda just sitting around. saw a large turtle but from que far so not great. med fish density. Nelly was weighed too light so we both popped out too quickly at the safety stop. Using new Ollis L.T.S. BCD for the 1st time. it's not as neutral as the Mares I had since there's no space 4 trim weights. will have to adapt a trim weight system, I naturally end up nearly vertical when I stop finning. Used old Cannon G12 camera and it worked fine. somehow did not find the dead pixel I had b4 :). pics with flash still have 2 much backscatter. would need a mount and separate Flash.
beautiful with even more and longer swim thrus. water is so warm, didn't use the shorty, just t-shirt. saw a huge turtle with a super thick neck, perfectly clear from about 15ft away. Nelly really liked this dive.
Night dive Nelly's 1st night dive which she didn't like so much. I thought it was pretty nice since we saw a big Barracuda hunting (but didn't bite down on anything) but the guide was a bit annoying, supposedly leading the group then heading back and letting us drift away and then deciding to turn back against the current are the worst time possible... trying to have us exit faster? Asked to do a lights-out, she (ducky) said yes, if we have time, and we just exited suddenly w/o a lights-out :( wasn't as much hunting as I had seen previously and a drift night dive isn't as relaxed for a1 st timer.

beautiful spot with a bunch of long swim thrus and coral architecture. saw a turtle that I took a nice video of and a sleeping nurse shark in a hole, so just saw gills and eyes.

same spot as last night's night dive except this time we could pass in some of the longest swim thrus so far, ever. saw a large turtle eating, a Caribbean lobster walking about and a Barracuda chilling. great dives today! seemed a little Heavy considering no wet suit on and alu tanks.

Awesome dive with nurse shark interception, swim thrus and deep wall. had done Santa Rosa wall 1x before but only got a quick glimpse of the wall and depths before heading into another swim thru. this time, got 2 look around and go a little deeper. beautiful coral forms!
Another great, longer swim thru. saw a few nurse Sharks swimming around but from a bit farther this time. Also saw the biggest parrot fish I've ever seen (4-5ft long) and Saw the biggest lobster (no claws) I've ever seen (+3ft long) moving around as we were drifting along doing our safety stop. wow! the viz started dropping towards the end while the current was picking up.
