2014-08-10 - Liberty Ship Charles S. Haight, Rockport,MA, United States
8.2m - 45 min
Late morning dive off Rockport at the Liberty Ship Captain Haight Wreck. The wreck is in ~30 ft of water. Visibility was better than expected, though still not great. The current was nasty on top but manageable on the bottom. Staying between the rocks kept us out current for the most part. Tons of lobsters, crabs, and starfish. A school of smallish fish followed us for the majority of the dive. The Wreck was neat, with two large pieces, a scattering of parts, and a large anchor chain still visible. Cold water but a good dive. Gear: 7mm wet suit with hood & gloves, 24lbs of weight (too much), and the GoPro
Second dive of the day, closer inland from the Charles Haight Wreck. The current was much lighter but the visibility was not as good. The dive felt much colder than the first so I only lasted a few minutes before giving up and heading to the surface. Not as many lobsters and crabs as the morning dive. Next time, we will go closer inland to check out the shallower side of the cove. I lightened up on the weight and still sunk like a rock. Gear: 7mm wet suit with hood and gloves, 22 lbs weight and Go Pro (though I didn't use it)
