2015-06-20 - Iceland Silfra Tectonic Rift, Reykjavik, Iceland

10.7m - 30 min - Dived with Rudi from Dive.Is Sport Diving School Of Iceland

Diving the Silfra Rift was a once in a lifetime experience! The gear was well maintained and all set up was done by the Dive.IS staff. Our dive master Rudi picked us up from our hotel in the morning and drove us to the site where we dove with 2 other divers. The small group size was perfect. The water was freezing! Wet suit gloves and hood worked well though my hands were quite cold at the end. The water was crystal clear and it was difficult to tell how deep we were. The bottom of the rift is covered with a fine silt that can easily be kicked up by an oblivious diver. The raw beauty of the rift is spectacular and quite serene. The dive is an exercise in buoyancy as there were shallow sections of 1 meter + to be crossed between the caverns. We did the dive twice with a 40 minute break in between for hot chocolate and cookies.
