2022-05-03 - Kuredu House Reef, Kuredu, Lhaviyani Atoll, Maldives

20.4m - 56 min - Dived with Fabi from Pro Divers Maldives

Giant stride off pier, surface swim to red buoy. Descended, did mask clearing, DV recovery and out of air emergency practice with Wilson. The the group headed North toward the wreck, swam a little beyond the wreck then turned and came back along the reef to the shot line. Performed a safety stop, swam back on surface to pier. The other couple were from California - Jackline and Robert (Jackline was all over the reef - Wilson was having kittens). This couple wanted to know about our Red Sea dives and invited us to dinner with them at Sangu Restaurant. SPECIES: 2 x Octopi, Black Tip Reef Shark, 1 Bar Clownfish, Powder Blue Tangs, Granulated Starfish, Giant Moray Eel, Moorish idols, School of snapper, Goldies, Chromis, Garden Eel, Humbugs, Batfish with cleaner wrasse, parrotfish, Regal angelfish, fire goby and short nose unicorn fish

First dive just Wilson and I, so nice doing our own thing. The entry and exit for this site is the same - surface swim to the buoy (watching for boat and air traffic), then descending the shot line and the reciprocal on the way back to the jetty. Swam over some Titan Trigger Fish (BIG MISTAKE) one of them nipped me on the knee. Found out afterwards that they are nesting near the buoy line. Will defo steer clear of them in the future. Headed North against the current. When we were at the wreck a giant eel came over the top of Wilson and into the wreck and then out through the bottom and up the reef to a safe piece of reef. The exit was a nightmare. A Plane came in just as we were about 1/3 of the way across, had to head back to the buoy line to get out of the way, then when we eventually made it near the jetty the dive boat wanted to dock. They had to wait for us the swim was hard due to the rip current. I am adding a kilo to my weight as I was far to buoyant at the end of the dive. SPECIES: Titan trigger fish, Giant Moray eel, Red Cod, Oriental sweetlips, Headband Butterfly fish, Short nose unicorn fish, Picasso fish, Humbugs, damsels (blue/green) (Blue,/yellow) Goldies, granulated sea star fish, Blue/green damsels, cleaner wrasse, Black Jacks, Moorish Idols, Travelli, spiny lobster, garden eels, Clown trigger fish, yellow snappers, fire gobi, Black mouth sea cucumber

I was a little concerned before diving as my tummy was playing up, but I managed to soldier through and boy am I glad. The sea life on this house reef is amazing. Found two pairs of 2 bar clown fish on the ground just before that wreck with their babies no bigger than a persons nail. Wilson was taking photos and a cleaner wrasse was all over him SPECIES: Pairs of one an two bar clownfish with their babies, cleaner wrasse, Moorish idols, headband butterfly fish, Black cheek moray eel, Blue and Yellow damsels, goldies, fire gobies, Indian damsels, titan trigger fish, humbugs, emperor angelfish, bannerfish, travelli, black jacks, happy parrotfish, granulated sea star, oriental sweetlips, Picasso trigger, very long nose butterfly fish, triangular butterfly fish

14.5m - 50 min - Dived with Pro Divers Maldives

Dived the plan remaining shallower and skirting the reef. We reached the boat pretty quickly, went over the top and continued. Wilson called it at 150bar to turn around and we needed to swim back against the current. Wilson was very happy though got to see the black tips (3 in total throughout the dive) as he missed the one we saw on the orientation dive. The first one passed us moving right to left over the reef, the second was moving left to right - so coming from the reef to the overhang and the third was on the surface (snorkel) swim back to the jetty. I got to witness the symbiotic relationship between the Gobi and the pistol shrimp on the way back. Where the Gobi offers the shrimp protection and in return the shrimp maintains their house SPECIES: 3 Balcktip reef sharks, Titan tigger fish, Black cheek moray eel, oriental sweetlips, humbugs, goldies, threadfin butterfly fish, clown trigger fish, snapper, headband angelfish, very long nose butterfly, firegobi, scorpion fish

Remained along the mid wall till the wreck then we descended to the bottom so that Wilson could take photos of the family of clown fish. The last blacktip we saw came down off the reef in front of me and turned and headed in the direction of the wreck. Wilson and I decided to do a few single daily dives, we are shattered. SPECIES: 3 x black tip reef sharks, turtle, titan trigger fish, black and yellow scrawled butterfly fish, Lionfish, goldies, Indian damsels, Clownfish family and their juveniles, Jacks, cowfish, regal angelfish, Moorish idols, oriental sweetlips, racoon butterfly fish, snappers, cleaner wrasse, emperor angelfish, powder blue surgeon fish.

The conditions were perfect, hardly any current, visibility was great all in all an incredible dive, with turtle, 5 x spotted eagle rays, black tip reef sharks all over and above the other species listed. Wilson was in his absolute happy place taking some incredible pictures and the freedom to loiter and observe things like the clownfish with their babies and the the moray eel feels like a luxury. The same entry and exit as previous, this time at the bottom of the shot line was a Napoleon Wrasse. The visibility was not great on this dive with loads of sediment in the water. At first it did not seem as though we were going to see anything over and above the usual residents but then we saw 3 black tips, the first after the wreck and the last before the shot line. I managed to take some photos of Wilson for a change. On our way back Wilson spotted a Octopus who was hunting and then a guitar shark with its remora to the side. SPECIES: Giant colourful clam, Napoleon wrasse, cleaner wrasse, chromis, humbugs, black cheek moray eel, goldies, blue parrot fish, Indian damsels, black box fish, emperor angelfish, happy face parrot fish, regal angelfish, titan trigger, black tip reef shark, batfish, octopus, yellow back fusiliers, guitar shark, lionfish, gobi, juvenile boxfish, Moorish idols, threadfin butterfly fish, powder blue surgeon fish

Wilson and I decided that today we would two dives. We skipped breakfast and later we would realise that we also missed out on lunch, so we were scrounging for something to eat - famished as you are after a dive. Managed to get the afternoon snacks at the O pool. This was a lovely dive though, the conditions were amazing. So fortunate to see 2 x Octopi the one swam across the reef so was easy to spot. SPECIES: Blacktip reef shark, happy face parrotfish, clown trigger fish, regal angelfish, fire gobis, 2 x Octopi, Moorish idols, two bar clownfish and babies, domino fish, juvenile emperor angelfish, humbugs, goldies, adult emperor angelfish, rock cod, chromis, headband butterfly fish, school of snapper, pin stripped butterfly fish, very long nose butterfly fish, cowfish, black cheek moray eels

15.2m - 60 min - Dived with Pro Divers Maldives

We spent out SIT time at the main pool and when we were there we spotted a huge pod of dolphin moving west to east (from the pier to the Obar) along the reef. On this dive the conditions had changed considerably from the previous dive, the viz was worse and the current had picked up. Encountered a couple of divers en-route. Some people just don't care for the reef and have no problem bouncing of it - very annoying! SEALIFE: Headband butterfly fish, Chromis, Humbugs, One bar clownfish, Emperor Angelfish, Coral Grouper, Staghorn Coral, Spotted butterfly fish, Napoleon wrasse, cleaner wrasse, Giant Moray eel, Lionfish, Blue and yellow damsels, gobi and pistol shrimp, garden eels, domino fish, cucumber

15m - 60 min - Dived with Pro Divers Maldives

The conditions were great, an improvement on the second dive the previous day. Again we saw 2 x Blacktips on the surface swim to the red buoy. It was very busy down below with a course and orientation divers. We planned to dive shallow and followed the plan dived the reef west to east (heading from the jetty toward the O beach) and continued way past the wreck. I managed to take a photo of Wilson with a school of snapper. I spotted a black tip above us and Wilson managed to get decent shots of it. Saw two Octopi, one went into a crevice and the other lay outside with tentacle inside - the assumption was they were mating. Trumpet fish followed us back to the Jetty from the buoy line. SPECIES: School of snapper, 2 x Octopi, Trumpet fish, black tip reef sharks

14.4m - 60 min - Dived with Pro Divers Maldives

While we were kitting up in the dive hut, Wilson spotted a huge ray swimming along the edge of the jetty. We saw another black tip reef shark on the surface swim to the buoy. This would be our last dive of the holiday. Maldives it has been amazing. I would definitely return to Kuredu. The dive staff talk fondly of their house reef and I can see why, the sea life is in abundance and we did not need to venture out to see something special every time. SPECIES: Skate, Blacktip reef sharks, headband butterfly, threadfin butterfly, blackfin dart fish, batfish, rock grouper, spotted boxfish, powder blue surgeon fish, goat fish, sunburst butterfly fish, bannerfish, jacks, pig face butterfly, humbugs, goldies, oriental sweetlips, lionfish, sand eels (garden) gobies
