Diver's Notes

We went out mainly so as to make the most of Rex being free with Paivi in New Zealand,
otherwise we probably wouldn't have bothered.

Entry was very difficult due to moderately
rough seas and the normally difficult entry off Monument Park.
We entered fom the
usual spot to the East, Rex and me going off a rock straight into the ocean, and
Yuki and Craig entering through a smaller pool that exited through a narrow opening
that shot craig out quite a distance over the top of a submerged rock.
While Rex
and my entry would have been very easy, Yuki forgetting to turn her air back on and
asking me to go back resulted in me ending up landing in another pool that had no
real exit to the ocean and becoming very annoyed.

Once out in the ocean it wasn't
thatbad on the surface, it's just that the waves hitting the rough rocks made it
a difficult entry.

Going down quickly to avoid the surge, we found ourselves in
very shallow (3m) of water, and had to swim out to deeper water ending up over the
sand.
There was a few schools of little zebra fish, and some cod (which the fishermen
were obviously going for as there wasn't much else), but there were three highlights
-

1. A very large cuttlefish hiding under a crevace, big and red just like the ones
we found at the night dive in Clovelly Pool.

2. Only a few metres past there, a
very big sea dragon

3. More impressively, a massive shark that had apparently brushed
past Craig rendering him absolutely shitscared, and Yuki holding onto my hand for
dear life.
I saw it swimming away in the distance and thought it had stripes like
a Port Jackson, however Craig and Rex (who obviously got a closer look) said it was
definitely a wobbigong.

We didn't spend too much more time because visibility was
so bad, butwhen we got out Rex was having trouble getting his fins off, in helping
him we both got dunked by a couple of big waves and I ended up stepping on a sea
urchin in the process (more concerned I was that Rex had already got his fin off
and may have lost yet another piece of dive equipment, which would have been three
out of three, this one being all the worse because it was Paivi's).
