21.3m - 61 min

This was the first dive of our trip, Justin's 200th dive, and our first time diving on the East Coast. We saw a couple big morays, several eagle rays, an ocean trigger, and dozens of turtles.

2022-05-23 - Bari Reef, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

21.7m - 57 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

This is the house reef for where we are staying, Den Laman. We saw a giant lobster, drumfish, a scorpion fish next to a flounder, a sharptail eel, and a spotted moray. I was following a couple white spotted file fish and we came across a group of 4-5 queen angles. At the very beginning of the dive I saw a juvenile French angel.

2022-05-23 - Salt City, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

25.5m - 44 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

This was a double reef dive with a difficult entry/exit and a long swim to the reef. We spent a lot of time in the sandy area between reefs. This was a good dive but Justin's computer started bubbling at the end so we couldn't do a third dive today like we had planned.

2022-05-24 - The Rock, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

25.5m - 48 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

This might be my new favorite dive site on Bonaire. There is a main reef and a second reef, "the rock", which is a standalone section. The reef was pretty and looked healthy. In the shallow area before the reef, there were a lot of small corals - brain, staghorn, etc. Could be a nursery. At the start of the dive we saw a baby trunkfish and a chain moray at the end.

This was an easy, relaxing dive on a pretty reef. The highlight was the fish eating tunicates.

2022-05-24 - Bari Reef, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

15.2m - 42 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

A night dive at this trip's house reef - it was a lot of fun. We saw several eels, arrow crabs out on the reef, tube anemones, and a couple tarpons.

2022-05-25 - Tolo, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

24.1m - 34 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

This was a very pretty dive but the conditions weren't great. The current really picked up towards the end - we swam out for 20mins or so, but it only took a couple minutes to drive back to the exit point. Due to the conditions, we stopped diving for the day after this.

2022-05-26 - Cha Cha Cha Beach, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

21.8m - 42 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

I forgot my camera on this dive outing. A lot of boats come in and out of this area so the reef was in bad shape, but there was still a lot to see. We saw eels, tarpon, triggerfish, flounders, scrawled file fish, and a scorpionfish on an anchor. We ended up under a pier and there was a really large barracuda that was following us for a bit. It was nice to see such diverse marine life even when the reef wasn't healthy.

2022-05-27 - La Machaca, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

30.5m - 35 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

This is the house reef at Captain Don's. There is a part of a boat that was a little too deep for us on nitrox. There was a shallower boat, La Machaca, that were were able to look at. This site got deep very quickly. We saw a tarpon, a barracuda, and a couple butterfly fish that seemed interested in my camera.

17.8m - 38 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

We entered to the right of the dock at Den Laman and turned right so this was the northern part of Bari Reef. We saw a scorpionfish as soon as we entered and a baby flounder on the swim out. At the top of the reef there was a big school of jacks that stayed for the duration of the dive. There was a soapfish at the safety stop.

25.5m - 49 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

This was a beautiful dive that lived up to its name. In addition to a lot of soft coral, we saw elkhorn coral, purple rope sponges, a school of school master snappers, a school of yellow tail snappers, and a couple slender file fish. There were more rock beauties at this site than at others.

A lot of soft coral at this dive although not as much as soft coral garden. There was some black coral at this site. There was a bit of a current that we had to swim against. We saw a barracuda right by the shore at the start and end of the dive and a turtle resting on some soft coral.

Invisibles was packed so we dived The Rock again today and, again, it was a great dive. The highlights were a big tiger grouper, another grouper getting cleaned by shrimp, and an eagle ray swimming over the reef.

24.3m - 44 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

A great final dive of this trip. During the long swim out we saw a slippery dicks diving into the sand, garden eels, and a palometa. During the dive we saw a continuous highway of fish swimming south - chromas, creole wrasses, with the occasional sgt. major or school and yellow tail snapper.
