2018-09-01 - Makena Landing, Hawaii Maui, United States

9.3m - 64 min - Dived with Maui Dreams Dive Co.

Saw three features: Shark Cave, Bubble Cave, and Toilet Bowel (couldn't go in). This was training for AWARE - Shark conservation specialty. We saw a couple white tip sharks. We also saw some turtles, triggers, butterfly fish, and morish idols. We also saw a small spotted moray. This was our first dive in Hawaii and the Pacific Ocean. It was really cool to see all the new fish.

2018-09-01 - Makena Landing, Hawaii Maui, United States

10.6m - 62 min - Dived with Maui Dreams Dive Co.

Saw triple arches and first finger. This was the second dive for our shark conservation specialty. We didn't see any sharks this time but we saw several really huge turtles. The fish here are really beautiful - similar types as the Caribbean but a little different. This was a great dive!

2018-09-02 - Honolua Bay, Hawaii Maui, United States

12.5m - 65 min - Dived with Maui Diving Scuba Center

This dive started with a long walk through the woods with our dive gear on before reaching the dive site. This was a very beautiful dive - the coral was very abundant and healthy. We saw a sea turtle, peacock groupers, a nudibranch, a Potter's Angelfish, a leaf scorpionfish, and other reef fish. There were areas where the visibility was poor, but, overall, this was a great dive...and so exciting to finally see a nudibranch!

2018-09-02 - Mala Wharf Boat Ramp, Lahaina, Hawaii Maui, United States

6.9m - 27 min - Dived with Maui Diving Scuba Center

This dive was a learning experience for us. Everything we read about this site says how easy it is so we went in without much of a dive plan. It turned out the visibility was maybe 6ft and strong waves/current. We kept trying to swim past it hoping the visibility would clear up, but it never did. We called the dive without getting to see anything and used up half a tank of air on a long, difficult swim. We will make sure to have a plan next time no matter how easy the site.

2018-09-03 - Cathedrals 1, Hawaii Lanai, United States

19m - 55 min - Dived with Dive Maui

This was our first of two dives on a boat trip to Lanai. On the ride out we saw a small pod of bottle-nose dolphins and a large pod of Hawaiian spinner dolphins. This site had beautiful reef structure with holds in the cathedral that looked with stained glass. There were several other swim-throughs as well. We saw an eel, a nudibranch with blue spots, and a large group of butterfly fish picking at a rock.

2018-09-03 - Steve's Cave, Hawaii Lanai, United States

19.1m - 47 min - Dived with Dive Maui

This dive started with a large wrasse with an urchin in it's mouth, which it was banging on a rock. This dive had a large swim-through cave. The reef structure was great! We saw a baby white-tip shark and a scorpion fish. I felt over-weighted on this dive - as my new wetsuit compresses I need less weight. I may try 12lbs on my next dive. UPDATE: I think weight was added to my BCD by mistake - may stick with 14lbs.

2018-09-04 - Mokule'ia (Slaughterhouse Beach), Hawaii Maui, United States

6.6m - 47 min - Dived with Maui Diving Scuba Center

This site had what felt like around 10,000 steps to go down to get from the parking area down to the beach, but it was worth it. We swam along the south side of the bay out to and around the point. We saw a large sea turtle, a couple white tip sharks, an eel and a lot of fish. The structure of this reef was cool with canyons and swim-throughs. In the more shallow areas we could see the waves breaking on the rocks above us.

2018-09-04 - Kahekili Beach (Old Airport), Hawaii Maui, United States

9.2m - 66 min - Dived with Maui Diving Scuba Center

This was a straight beach as opposed to a bay or cove like most of the rest of our Maui shore dives. W saw several cool things - an eel, a nudibranch, a couple sea turtles, a scorpion fish, a small unknown leaf/algae-looking fish (possibly a type of juvenile wrasse), and a dascyllus guarding its coral home. Justin saw an octopus but, bu the time I arrived, it went back in its den - although I did see an arm inside the den.

2018-09-05 - Mala Wharf Boat Ramp, Lahaina, Hawaii Maui, United States

9.1m - 43 min - Dived with Maui Diving Scuba Center

After our bad experience at this site the other day, this time, it was great! We could see where we were going and it was very easy to navigate. There were a ton of all the normal fish. We saw three or four white tip sharks. At the end of the pier rubble there was a turtle cleaning station. There were probably around ten turtles coming in to get cleaned and we saw maybe 15-20 turtles total. This was a really great dive!

2018-09-05 - Ulua Beach, Hawaii Maui, United States

7.6m - 65 min - Dived with Dive Maui

This was a very pretty dive with a reef similar to Makena Landing. We swam to the right of the beach. We saw a small octopus, a sea urchin with a glowing electric blue pattern on top, and some sort of mollusk with a large, pointy shell. There were a lot of all the usual fish here. I saw a mini mini humuhumunukunukuapua'a in the shallow area as we were getting out.

2018-09-05 - Olowalu, Hawaii Maui, United States

4.4m - 25 min - Dived with Dive Maui

This dive was a big disappointment. We parked at a beach with a sign that said Olowalu, but we must have been at the wrong place because of reef here was dead and covered with algae. We swam out quite far but there was nothing to see so we turned back after a few minutes.
