Saw an octopus moving over the reef, and two adorable cuttlefish hanging out together. Their colours changed from being a beautiful silvery white/translucent colour when they were hovering over sand to a jagged brown/white mix when they were hovering over sea shells. The larger one was more timid than the smaller one. The smaller one poked a shell, so I poked it too. I spent several minutes sitting with them and watching them.
While scuba diving this morning at Shiprock, I saw an octopus nestled against a reef and the sand. It was sitting atop a plastic bag (which I always try to collect and take ashore). I carefully approached, grabbed the bag between my thumb and forefinger and started gently pulling it towards me. The octopus responded with body language that said "on no you don't!". It extended a tentacle, wrapped it around the opposite end of the bag and started pulling it back towards itself. It was an incredible interaction. I also noticed Carijoa Riisei for the first time. a.k.a snowflake coral. It was very delicate white and ornate coral that has a branching/flower kind of structure.
Went to shiprock to dive with Greg, but unfortunately some of the gear broke. Greg let us dive by ourselves and he stayed above. We explored along the wall, checked out the cave and I saw the mannequin but Maddy didn't notice it. We recorded footage and acted like fools, it was loads of fun. :) The video of the dive can be seen here: https://youtu.be/faa2io02VUM
