2012-05-26 - Dalkey Sound, Dalkey , Ireland

17m - 25 min

Large swell on the trip out to the dive site, lucky i had a small breakfast! Massive waves with deep troughs made the trip exciting. Once we got the boat round to the west side of the island it was almost flat calm. The vis wasn't the best with 1m vis at 17m for the first half of the dive and about 2m vis at 13m for the last portion. Loads of star fish to be seen on the sea bed and not much else. Excellent drift dive. Before surfacing we depolyed our SMB and were picked up by the boat at the agreed pick up point near the top end of the Island. Any further and we would have been back out in the massive swell and would have been carried by the current for miles back towards Dun Laoghaire.

2012-06-01 - Sandycove, Dun Laoghaire, Ireland

7.9m - 20 min

Flat calm seas, high tide at 08:20. Quite a lot of jellyfish near the surface, once down we were clear of them for the whole dive. I didn't need to wear my hood or gloves as it was quite warm however it did take me a couple of minutes to aclimatise to the colder water temperature. Thoroughly enjoyable dive.

2012-06-02 - Portoriel Harbour, Clogherhead, Ireland

5.2m - 30 min

Nice morning dive. Sea a bit choppy but not to bad. Nice easy entry down the slip. Began dive heading away from the harbour (on our right) and took a bearing heading NW. Nice rock formations with loads of crab scampering across the sandy bottom between the large boulders. Near the end of the dive we were joined by two harbour seals who kept a close eye us from a distance.

2012-06-11 - Portoriel Harbour, Clogherhead, Ireland

6.1m - 52 min

Calm seas and a high tide. We took an easterly bearing from our entry point at the slip way and ended up in the harbour. From there then we took a NW bearing and finished up just five feet short of our entry point back at the slipway. Nice relaxing Dive.

5.8m - 24 min

Overcast and showers with a fair swell. Plenty of Lobster about gorging themselves on jellyfish. Few crab about hiding under rocks. Very nice dive although Mick got cold near the end of the dive. Thought he may have had a leak but when we checked back on shore he was dry. Note to self: My tank is due a service.

8.2m - 21 min

Bit of a swell & surge. Cloudy skies at the begining of the dive but near the end the sun broke through lifting the light level. Very little sea life, crab and the odd wrasse or two. Murky water & quite a lot of kelp & seaweed. Lovely warm water (for Ireland) and a thoroughly enjoyable dive.

2012-08-04 - Sandycove, Dun Laoghaire, Ireland

8.4m - 20 min

Second dive today and much the same conditions as the earlier dive, bit of a swell & surge. Lovely blue sky for this dive which helped with the visability somewhat. Still murky though at 2-3m vis. Spotted a harbour seal lurking in the shadows behind us as we made our way back to shore. Couldn't capture him on the camera with the bad vis. Fab second dive.

2012-08-07 - Sandycove, Dun Laoghaire, Ireland

4.5m - 22 min

Cloudy and a few showers but it cleared up as we were gearing up. Met two freedivers who were heading out to do a spot of spear fishing. Flat calm seas with almost no current. High tide was at 14:55hrs so it was nice and slack for our dive. The visability wasn't the best at 3-4m but we're used to that at this stage. It makes it more interesting in a way as you never know what's out ther in front or down below you. At the end of the dive while we were taking of our equipment we met an Australian chap who had been in the special forces. He regaled us with tales of his diving escapades with the military. Interesting guy. Nice dive in sandycove.
