Diver's Notes

Dive Buddies: Emily Strand, Sam Smith

Dive 2 of the Point Loma Kelp Beds! We relocated to a place called Seven Fathoms, another patch of kelp in a more reefy area. We anchored again at the southern edge of the kelp and descended directly off the back of the boat using one of the stalks.

This dive was fairly uneventful. The kelp was nice and spaced out, so it was fairly easy to swim through, but we didn't see much other than garibaldi and cone snails. We probably went too far into the forest where there generally isn't much life.

I got really cold towards the end as did Emily and Sam, so we ended up ascending fairly far from the boat. We kept getting tangled in the kelp canopy trying to swim on the surface, so we descended a bit and swam under it per Jade's suggestion.

All in all fairly uneventful dives, but I was still happy to spend some time underwater with my friends! We grabbed coffee and burritos afterwards.
