Dive Buddies: Emily Strand, Sam Smith

Waterhorse wreck dives with Emily and Sam! Joe and Britney made it as well so it was a great group of friends to dive with. Emily brought us both coffee and I brought everyone banana bread. We got there early, but boarded fairly quickly and were out to the Yukon in no time.

When we pulled up to the moorings however, there were only two visible and the crew weren't sure where we were tying on to (somewhere midships, either the guns or the bridge). Luckily they brought a guy to attach new moorings, so he was doing that while the rest of us did fun dives.

We descended to discover we had tied on to the bridge mooring and decided to head towards the bow of the wreck. There were nudibranchs everywhere! Mostly opalescents and tritonia festiva, but I also spotted a few lemon dorids. There were also kelp bass, sheepshead, and various other fishes all around, but mostly we were just excited to explore the wreck itself.

Once we rounded the bow, I hit turn pressure and we started headed back near the highest part of the boat (port side) which was covered in broad kelp leaves swaying with the surge. I spotted the vertical swim through from wreck class and signaled Sam to see if he wanted to do it, but he signaled no which was probably smart since I think we would've been short on air.

We ascended the line below Britney and Joe (Britney kicked Emily in the head), did our safety stop, lost the mooring line goofing around for pictures, but still surfaced not far from the swim step of the boat. Fantastic dive!
