Dive Buddies: Sam Smith, Adam Pierce, Doug Wagner, Alexa Mikalaski

After dropping Tara and the kids off at the airport for their Thanksgiving trip to Florida, I decided to grab my gear and head to the shores! My plan was to dive with Sam, but TDB was also there in full force. Emily was there, too, but she was DMing an OW class with Andrew. However, she was gracious enough to bring my tank to me from the shop. She filled it for me after the wreck dives because she is the most amazing friend ever!

Sam and I decided to tag along with Adam's group to the North Wall. Surface swim out was fairly uneventful, but the viz was great the entire way. We descended at around 35 ft and headed west to the canyon.

As soon as Adam started following the wall, he took off with Alexa and Doug chasing after him. So Sam and I decided to split off and go at a more leisurely pace. We followed the wall until it flattened out into a plateau, eventually running into a fairly vast region with lots of patches of mussels. There were rock crabs and sheep crabs all around feasting on the mollusks (along with the biggest sheep crab I've ever seen). We also found a bunch of treasures among the sand - 5 surfboard fins, a nice snorkel, a swim sock, and Sam found a random zebra toy.

Shortly past the mussels, I hit turn pressure, so we headed back along the same route seeing roughly the same critters along with some big side gilled sea slugs and moon snails. All in all a great dive and my first with just Sam!
