Diver's Notes

Dive Buddies: Adam Pierce, Ray Grant, Sean Forbes, AB

I hadn't planned on doing a second dive, but Adam offered me a second tank and I couldn't turn it down! I had to move my car to the parking lot from Vallecitos to avoid getting a ticket, but it was worth the trouble. Plus the little tank he lent me was so tiny and cute! I'm amazed it held 3700 psi.

For the last dive of the day, we decided to go to Vallecitos Point. As soon as we entered the street, I spotted bait balls and leopard sharks (including some fresh new young ones!). And visibility was just as good if not better than the first dive! We dropped just before the lip of the canyon with perfect precision.

We saw tons of life. Two-spot octos in their hidey holes, red octos, Spanish shawls, cabezons, sheepshead, rock fish, crabs, and even the monster halibut that likes to hang out there. I nearly ran face first into a barbed wire jellyfish chain, but luckily noticed it in the nick of time just a few inches from my cheek.

I'm not sure who hit turn pressure first, maybe AB, but we turned just as I was about to hit it myself so the timing couldn't have been better. Adam and I took turns taking goofy pictures of each other on the swim in. After swimming through our safety stop, we surfaced right at about 10 ft right in front of Vallecitos Street, and lo and behold there were the leopard sharks and bait balls again! I snorkeled around a bit to get some videos while everyone else headed in. I also found a lone shovelnose guitarfish.

Fantastic dive and a great send off for Thanksgiving vacation! Can't wait to get back and dive some more!
