Diver's Notes

Dive 100!!!!

Visibility was poor, no better than 10-12 meters I think.
The dive was ok though. Leo's broken legs (joke, see previous dive) stopped him from swimming around too much. Currents were still strong so the swimming we did do was quite tiring.
We waited at the cleaning station a long time. others gave up and went on but Leo (afraid he made us swim too much again) kept us put. When we were about to quite several mantas came over, real close too!
Leo ran out of no-deco time, so he had to go up a bit. We followed and then he saw several large mantas circling right where we were sitting in the gravel earlier. He pointed out that if I had no-deco time left (which I did) that I could go back. I decided not to, as I thought the mantas would probably flee.

Manta Alley is much colder so here I was wearing my new sharkskin climate control outfit (trousers and vest), which kept me comfortable.
I increased my weights to 6kg, but I think that's too much. Although I decent much slower when I enter the water (sharkskin states their stuff is neutrally buoyant. Not sure that's true, but for sure it needs some time to soak up all the water!), once down I need to put a significant amount of air more into my BCD. I recon 5kg would have been enough. Considering they didn't have half kg, and considering the currents in Komodo, I decided to stay at 6kg rather than be too light at 4kg and struggle getting down. with a normal 5mm wetsuit probably I'll be ok with 5kg.

Side note: I think my Suunto transmitter ran out of batteries because I couldn't sync throughout the trip (and occasionally my D6i picked up another person's transmitter), so I don't have detailed air consumption data for this trip.
My air consumption still sucks by the way.
