Diver's Notes

Siaba Kecil was a killer dive. Roy was shattered from the drift dives in the recent days, and I guess it was a good thing he didn't join, as this was THE BOMB!!!! O-MY-GOD, that was an absolute killer drift dive! Photographically not great and some thermoclines between 24 and 27 degC.
This drift was fast, and I mean REAL fast! Probably the strongest drift dive we had this trip. We could see it from the cruise towards the dive site after this one, which showed currents exceeding 8 knots! (not this dive though).
The beginning had some updrafts pulling us from 16 to 8 meters deep.
Several times I had to hook in to stay close to the group. Really I probably should have stuck closer to the reef. I actually didn't bring a hook on this dive, but I think it would have been fruitless as there was mostly loose rubble on the bottom, nothing to firmly hook in. I Brought my pointer stick and managed to slam it into the ground about 3/4 of the way. The current was so strong that it actually bend my stick! On the right of me Jan grabbed hold of a huge boulder... which then subsequently flipped over and started tumbling down the current!
This was one of those scenes from a cartoon, like Tom and Jerry, you know, where you see the claws in the ground and leaving claw marks streaking across the floor as the cat gets dragged away. That was the scene.

Following the current we saw a manta about 20 meters away, you know as graceful and smooth as they can be... NOT!!!!!!! This one was flaunting and fluttering, and if it could pant, I would have sworn it was panting, trying to fight the current. It was actually quite funny to watch!

At the end of the dive we spotted another Manta just turning its ass to us and disappearing in the blue, not too graceful.
I don't think I took any pics this dive, but it certainly was a worthwhile experience!
