Diver's Notes

This site is part of a large underwater archeological park know in Italian as parco archeologico summerso di baia. Where the old roman city of Baia can be explored.

The Ninfeo di Claudio is a short boat ride (5 min) and used to be a recreational area for emperor Claudius. A bath, two pools and a wide street known as calzada herculeana can be visited. Tiled floors are clearly visible and statues of Bacco, Dionisio, etc can be seen.

The floor is normally kept covered by sand to protect it from the sunlight and the DM has to remove the sand for it to be visible. Afterwards everything is carefully covered with sand again.

It is a rather shallow dive but the fact that the old city is there to be explored makes it quite unique.

The focus is on the archeology site since there is not much life to see and reef is limited and colorless. The bottom is dark sand clear evidence of the constant volcanic and seismic activity of the area that affected the city and keeps life very limited
