Diver's Notes

This was the second dive for the rescue diver open water dives. The task of my buddy and I, as well as another buddy team was to locate a missing diver (a yellow weight belt) located near the SE corner of the corner. The initial plan was to perform a grid search from the edge of the barge. I tried to coordinate one buddy team to do a left grid, another buddy team to do a right grid. Well my buddy and I did the left hand side, and the other buddy team got lost. After a while, the other buddy team met up with us and joined our search pattern. I decided to perform a long leg on the side of the side of the wreck, and didn't find anything. Trying to get back to the wreck, the current took us way north of it. I popped up, located the dive boat, set my heading, and we swam back to the wreck at depth.

At this point, my buddy and I started the right hand grid and found the weight belt on the second return leg.

After the dives were over and we had packed our stuff, two divemasters popped up on the surface and pretended to be divers in distress. Me and my buddy were in the water first with mask, fins, and snorkel. I reached my buddy first but he started sinking as a nonresponsive drowned diver. I took a few rapid breaths and free dove several feet to drag him back up. Once at the surface, I gave two rescue breaths and continued to try to give breaths every 5 seconds while performing a speed two. When in distance of the boat, they threw a bouy out and they dragged us in. I removed his halcyon rig and as a team got him on the boat.

At this point, my buddy came up with his victim, and I again helped remove the Halcyon rig and get him on the boat. At this point we had to administer O2. The second victim was yoyo, and breathed shallow enough that he wasn't triggering the on-demand regulator, so I switched him over to the continuous flow O2. At this point, another DM came over with a horrific injury on her arm. At this point, I just helped pass over bandages.

Richard pretended to have a pencil stuck in his arm and another buddy group tended to him. After everyone was patched up, we headed back.
