This was my first time spearfishing with a speargun. I went out with Dive Duck Key on what was basically a private charter since there were only two paying passengers on the vessel. Schwenke was my spearfishing guide and he showed me how to load the gun and had me do some practice shots before swimming around the reef looking for fish.
I spotted the first legal hogfish but missed. Schwenke tried handing me his gun but I didn't notice so he shot it. As he was transferring the fish to his stringer, another nice sized hog appears and I had reloaded by then but again missed. At this point, Schwenke was able to reload and hit the hog.
We ended up coming back with 3 fish on this first trip and it was a blast.
