2013-05-11 - Molokini Crater Reef's End, Hawaii Molokini, United States
24.7m - 43 min - Dived with Lahaina Divers, Inc.
(Jill 52) - Reef's End 81 feet for 43 minutes. Saw white tip reef Shark. Saw big yellow margin morey out hunting. Saw another spotted moray later. Saw fish exhibiting digging behaviour and chasing off another fish that was annoying it. Tried out new GoPro camera and it worked quite well. I had no problems descending. Took Jill a little while, but she made it down. She did great.
2013-05-11 - Molokini Crater, Hawaii Maui, United States
19.2m - 39 min - Dived with Lahaina Divers, Inc.
(Jill 53) - Aquarium 63 feet for 39 minutes. Saw white tip reef Shark and lots of other fish. Had to surface early because weather up-top was getting rough. All other boats were gone when we surfaced.
2013-05-16 - Molokini Crater, Hawaii Maui, United States
18.9m - 48 min - Dived with Mike Severns
Molokini Crater. 62 feet for 48 minutes. Another very cool crater dive. This trip has changed my opinion of the crater. Saw 3 white tip reef sharks resting under a ledge (small ones). Saw a cool ray out cruising around. Saw a flounder (or some fish with eyes on top of his head. Great dive.
2013-05-16 - Kamaole 3, Hawaii Maui, United States
16.5m - 56 min - Dived with Mike Severns
Kamaole - off of Kihei, 54 feet for 56 minutes. Lots of turtles, saw maybe 10 at one time. Cool turtle cleaning station. Tiny, cute, cool frogfish, bright yellow. Large eel. Very cool people on the boat. Didn't really care for the dive boat itself, small and kind of cattle herder, but the dive masters and staff were great. I would go with them again, but would prefer ProDiver. Joe and U-man greatly preferred Lahaina Divers over Mike Severns, and liked ProDiver better too. Saw 2 humpback whales on the way to this dive. Unusual since whale season officially ended the day before.
2013-05-17 - Fraggle Rock, Hawaii Lanai, United States
17.1m - 36 min - Dived with Lahaina Divers, Inc.
Lanai West Coast, Fraggle Rock, 56 feet for 36 minutes. Cathedrals was cancelled due to the huge south swell, so we went all the way over the west coast of Lanai. The cliffs on that side were huge. We saw whales and dolphins on the way over to Lanai (in the channel). The dolphins were chasing flying fish and both were leaping out of the water. This dive was not good. We changed from an anchor dive to a live boat drift dive, and that meant they had to combine groups and everyone had to come up at the same time. There were some beginners in our group, so we all surfaced with nearly a half-tank left. Visibility was very poor, 30 feet at best, and we didn't see much. There were some long stringy jellies in the water that stung several people, with no real ill effects except for the pain (no marks)
2013-05-17 - Three Arches, Hawaii Lanai, United States
18.3m - 41 min - Dived with Lahaina Divers, Inc.
Lanai West Coast, Three Arches, 60 feet for 41 minutes. 1:02 of surface in between dives. 3 eels, cool nudibranchs. This site was much better than the previous dive. Really good site. We did not find the three arches, but the lava pinnacles were very cool, and we had decent visibility of 50-60 feet. This time Joe got stung across his face (right below his nose) by a jellyfish. Saw a really cool jelly-like creature that I've seen before in monterey bay aquarium, as well as the same long string jellies. Our afternoon dives were cancelled due to the south swell messing up the conditions on west maui, plus we got back really late because of the long drive over to Lanai.
2013-05-18 - Fish Rain, Hawaii Molokai, United States
22.3m - 43 min - Dived with David from Lahaina Divers, Inc.
Molokai fish rain. 73 feet for 43 minutes. U-man says this is the best dive he has ever done, and it come close to that for me. We dove onto the reef at Mokuho'oniki Rock off of Molokai and hovered over the reef briefly before heading out into the blue. Within minutes we saw our first hammerheads. They were off in the distance, so not spectacular. but then we ran into a group of 3 or 4 and they were staying pretty close to use, I'd say within 20-30 feet. Very cool to see these weird creatures up close. Occasionally they would swim towards us briefly and that was a little unsettling. Saw hammerheads for most of the dive, so was really great. Crossing was a little rough, but not bad. Entry and exit were fine. We liked David our dive guide, and Erica was on the boat and is a dive guide now. Chris was driving the boat instead of driving. Visibility was 60-80 feet.
2013-05-18 - Mohukooniki Rock, Hawaii Molokai, United States
18.6m - 44 min - Dived with David from Lahaina Divers, Inc.
Joe and U-man saw a group of 5 hammerheads, but I missed that, darn it! I did see a couple hammerheads later in the dive. We spent more time over the reef at the beginning of this dive and that was spectacular. So many fish. I saw a big puffer and tried to get him to puff by touching his back fin, but he just looked at me annoyed and swam away. Overall, another good dive, but Joe and U-man got more hammerheads than I did. Some people saw Galapagos and white tip reef sharks on the dive, but I missed all of those. Some people in the other group saw rays.
