Diver's Notes

Jill 88

Great Molokini Backwall dive - started in the crater and then went over the reef and out along the wall. Saw a couple eels and a white tip reef shark. Went with ProDiver out of Kihei and still love this dive company, despite the 4:45 wake-up call. Jill and I were both good with 12 pounds in our wetsuits. Gear worked great, though Jill doesn't like my black fins. She can't find me.

One of the divers on the boat, an extremely heavy-set woman, swam off away from the group very deep, maybe 150+ feet. I did not see this, but then she apparently came up to about 100 feet and then free ascended. The divemaster made everyone surface immediately, and at the surface he said he thought he lost his first diver and was terrified. The woman seemed fine. Another guy on the boat (who panicked a bit when that woman went deep, and also was overly assistive to the Indian guy and Jill who also went deep, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that the divemaster asked him to help) told me that he thought she was trying to commit suicide.

During the dive, Jill also went too deep for her Nitrox, down to 122 feet and ignored the instructor asking her to return. She and another diver, an Indian guy who worked for Tesla, and the woman got chewed out on the boat afterward. The other diver and the heavy set woman were not allowed to dive again, but Jill was fine.
