Diver's Notes

Went with Molokai Fish & Dive. Tim, the proprietor and dive master, was recommended by Joe. He was a great guy, but a bit laissez-faire about safety, said things like 'if you need to share air, that's ok'. Also, was supposed to be a family combined dive/snorkel, but we were told when we arrived that we were getting split into a snorkel boat and a dive boat. The dives were great, but the overall experience was less than satisfactory.

82. - Great dive with turtles and a fair amount of swimming. One dad/mom had his 11-year old kid who was certified along. This same dad had an absolutely massive camera rig with 18" articulating arms with lights coming off of it. Very early in the dive he had his kid and wife pose for a photo over the reef while his son kicked the crap out of the reef while trying to stay still for the same camera. Beautiful reef, lots of neat critters. Towards the end of the dive I see a small commotion break out and can tell one of the divers is out of air. The guy grabbed someone's octopus and then things were tangled up. I remained in the back watching the situation trying to see if I was needed to help. Hoses were all tangled up and Tim calmly sorted things out and got the guy settled and sent he and his buddy back to the boat. Of course, it was the camera guy. When I got back on the boat he was saying "I don't know what happened, one second I had 1500lbs and the next I was out of air". I was directly behind him most of the dive and did not notice any out of the ordinary bubbles, nor was there a big burst of air at any point (like a burst hose or out-of-control reg), so while I would normally give him the benefit of the doubt, what happened on the 2nd dive makes me doubt him completely.
