Diver's Notes

Time of the dive when the incoming tide was at it's strongest. We all expected strong currents, and surface was quite choppy too. I knew it is not going to be an easy dive. On top of that, we (6 divers) were diving as 2 groups of 3 divers. Istvan was assigned to look after a couple of inexperienced divers, who had a year passed since their last dive. So the only option for me was to dive with the remaining 2 guys, who both were experienced, but one of them was an Italian guy, who never dived in Irish waters, and the other guy was a local diver, but from another club. In other words I did not know any of them and I was not sure what to expect in not ideal conditions.
The plan was - drop us in the sheltered area to the east of Muglins rock, where the current splits into 2 parts. This sheltered area is not big and there is a risk to get caught in the current if one accidentally drifts away from the area. We decided to get down to the bottom immediatelly after entry, and the go along by the rocky formations at 330º bearing in at a slow relaxed speed.
We were at depths around 20m and all was well until about 20min into the dive, when my computer indicated NDL warning with 4min left. I signaled my buddies and let them know about that and we ascended to a shallower depths (18m) which increased my NDL time by a few extra minutes. Eventually Colm informed me that he is low on air (50bar) and he asked me to deploy DSMB.
I delivered DSMB from my pocket and deployed successfully, but during safety stop computer told me to make 5min safety stop instead of 3 min. Apparently there is a Shearwater feature which adds 2 extra minutes if NDL limit is nearly reached.
We ended dive successfully and Willie treated u swith a tour around Dalkey island.
