Diver's Notes

Second dive with Apeks wing. This time had everything adjusted much tighter to avoid previous disasterous dive experience. After descent Michael and I ended up at 4-5m depth and after 10 minutes I realized I am underweighted (10kg on the belt) and could not maintain depth. Had to surface and add more weight.
After adding 1kg extra to my drysuit pocket I could continue the dive. There was slight current and the dive was nearly a drift dive.
After approx 30 minutes we have done a safety stop and surfaced.
When boat came to collect us things turned out really badly. Firstly, I got mixed up among webbings and accidentally opened weight belt buckle instead of wing harness. Getting weightbelt out of the harness was difficult. Harness itself was too tight on the shoulders, which made nearly impossible to get out of it. Had to let some air out of the wing to make more space to get myself out. Once I got free, the wing with the rest of the scuba unit sank as it was not enough air in the wing to keep unit afloat. Complete disaster at a substantial cost. Have high hopes that it can be recovered later. Lost items include Apeks WTX-D40 backplate and wing set, 15ltr steel tank, Aqualung Core Supreme reg set, Apeks console, 9-led torch, knife holder. Marker position N53º 17.520' / W6º 6.833'.
