Diver's Notes

Merry Christmas. My christmas wish come true. I have been wanting to dive Osprey Reef since I saw the David Attenbourough doco in 2018.
Missed with Spirit of Freedom in July 2019 due to weather, and then missed again on Spoilsport in Sep 2021 due to weather.
But here now, first dive on Osprey reef on Christmas day, decided to wear my Storm Christmas attire. So how was the dive? Challenging and fantastic.
After entering the water we kicked against the current down the channel to deeper water, saw a shark resting on the bottom and a few over head.
With hundreds of barracuda and Trevally filling the water above us, we reached the edge of the drop off.
It was exhilarating, looking down into the gloom knowing it is death to head down, over a kilometre deep.
David and I continued along the wall to our left, dropping to 25m. A few inquisitive sharks came and had a look at us, 1 in particular looked different than the others, a grey reef shark.
We didn't find the yellow coral as the marker to head back, but when our air reached 100bar, we took another left, heading up a gully.
20m into the gully we both made a boat signal asking each other the direction of the boat, both of us shrugged at each other and pointed in the same direction, a good sign.
We went up over the ridge, still no boat, so we crossed the gully to the next ridge. At the top of the next ridge we both saw another diver and the boat at the same time just past the next ridge.
As there was a mildish current, we both hung from the shotline and bar under the boat for a safety stop. Awesome dive. Best dive so far on this trip.
