2015-07-05 - Yellow Submarine, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

17.4m - 37 min - Dived with Kevin Dane from Dive Friends Bonaire

We saw many things that would have been the highlight of almost any other dive I've been on: porcupine puffer, queen angels, french angels, juvenille French angel, scorpion fish, trunk fish, file fish, cowfish (honeycomb), frog fish, sea slug, drum fish, trumpet fish, sea cucumber, sharp tail eel, etc. First dive with nitrox and first dive for shore diving specialty class.

20.1m - 38 min - Dived with Kevin Dane from Dive Friends Bonaire

Second training dive for shore diving specialty. The first dive where Justin and I had to plan the dive. We saw three sea horses, a file fish, a baby moray eel, a baby trunk fish, and an octopus. Also a three-rowed sea cucumber, a lettuce sea slug, and a scorpion fish.

2015-07-06 - Andrea I, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

21.9m - 38 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

This was our first dive completely on our own. Justin did a great job finding our exit point which I would have missed otherwise. For some reason I had difficulty controlling my buoyancy (found out later that my BCD wasn't holding air) on this dive and the visibility wasn't great. We saw many parrotfish, a baby moray, trunk fish, and a young drumfish. Saw four iguanas on the shore before the dive.

2015-07-06 - Bari Reef, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

18m - 40 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

The current was strong here! We hardly had to swim to get to the exit point. Visibility not great but we saw some cool fish: scrawled filefish, white spotted file fish, a lizard fish, trumpet fish, some kind of worm, a honeycomb cowfish, french angels, queen angel, and a baby trunkfish.

2015-07-06 - Windsock, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

20.8m - 38 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

We entered at the rightmost end of the site ans swam right so it may not technically be Windsock. We started and ended at the fuel dock. We saw a white spotted file fish, trumpet fish, trunk fish, and a giant drum fish! We also swam through a school of silversides which was really neat. At the very end of the dive there were many parrotfish grazing on the coral rubble in the shallows.

2015-07-07 - Something Special, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

16.7m - 40 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

We were told by several people that this is the best dive site on the island and that a large yellow frog fish lives here. We weren't able to fins the frogish unfortunately We saw a large lizard fish, some trunk fish, some trumpet fish, a scorpion fish, juvenile french angel, and a sharp tail eel. I also saw a little damsel fish go after a big parrot fish for getting to close.

2015-07-07 - Aquarius, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

23.2m - 39 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

Although the visibility wasn't great, this was our favorite dive so far! On the sandy shallows I saw a very young juvenile french angel and a cowfish. During the dive we saw a hugh green moray eel. Most of the fish on the reef were the normal fish but they were extremely active! There were probably thousands of grey chromas swimming all over as if they were feeding. There were also many school masters throughout and a school of small purple fish, and two scrawled file fish that were changing colors.

2015-07-07 - Angel City, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

17.7m - 35 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

This dive had really poor visibility but seemed like it probably would have been my favorite so far. The reef structure here was the most interesting, a double reef with pillars to swim around. We saw a spotted eagle ray, a very large schoolmaster snapper, and a peacock flounder. This was the first real test of our navigational skills; we had to use our compass. We may want to do the navigation specialty course.

2015-07-08 - 1000 Steps, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

20m - 32 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

Had to walk down a bunch of steps to get to the beach. The location was very beautiful. During the dive we saw a sea turtle, a large drum fish, and many parrot fish. The reef structure was interesting but the visibility wasn't good.

2015-07-08 - Alice In Wonderland, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

18.1m - 41 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

This was a nice dive but the visibility was poor and the current was quite strong. We saw a peacock flounder and a huge midnight parrot fish in the sandy shallows. There was a big cowfish at the top of the reef. We saw our first black durgon of the trip during this dive. There was also a large drum fish and a soapfish. The reef structure was interesting with a large coral pillar we swam around at our turn-around point.

25.9m - 34 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

Bonaire's wreck dive. The boat is on its side with the bottom of the ship facing the shore. The visibility wasn't great so we nearly swam into the ship before we saw it. We swam around the ship before surfacing. It was very crowded with a lot of divers. There were some tarpon towards the bottom of the wreck.

2015-07-09 - Oil Slick Leap, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

20m - 41 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

This was a very easy entrance and exit with a ladder to use. We saw several cool things on this dive: a barracuda, a large drum fish, a porcupine puffer, a cowfish, and a spotted eagle ray. I saw a large lionfish here but it was only the third of fourth of this trip. There was almost no current. The visibility was better than it's been but still not great.

2015-07-09 - Pink Beach, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles

20.6m - 38 min - Dived with Dive Friends Bonaire

A fun dive! First we saw what I think was a red-spotted siphonophore, which Justin may have been stung by. The we saw a big cowfish. We followed him for most of the dive while he was feeding off sponges and coral. The, all of a sudden, he turned electric blue and swam off towards another cowfish that was also electric blue. The started doing some kind of dance. We had to leave them before they were finished.
