Diver's Notes

By the time we arrive there our service interval of an hour had passed so we did not have to wait any longer. Barry jumped in the water and tied off the anchor chain to one of the racks on the floor of the ocean before coming back. I jumped into the water being the first one in after Barry as I didn't want to waste a lot of time and we had to get the boat back by noon. The visibility was even lower at this location though the worst part of it was the first 20 feet yet again. I, again, worked my way around one of the lines to the bow of the boat and then descended along the anchor line. There was a current on the surface but hardly any on the sea floor. The bottom, again, came up pretty fast as it was another 45 foot dive. Barry suggested that we stay down only 30 to 35 minutes. The three barges dive location was a bunch of different debris fields which comprised of three different barges. At this point, however, the only thing we saw was a bunch of steel debris on the floor covered and ocean life. Visibility at this location was much worse below 20 feet that it was at the other location. I could only see about 20 feet here and hung around the Anchorline not venturing much further than 40 feet. I wasn't really worried about losing the location of the anchor line but I didn't want to inconvenience anybody by having to come out get me in the middle of the Gulf somewhere.

The fish there were similar to the fish at the Patti Barge and I found it quite fascinating again to watch them dart around. I did see a lionfish this time which we are supposed to immediately kill and bring its body back to the boat but I did not have any equipment to do that. I just went around watching the different bits of sea life until about 30 minutes into my dive when I made my way back to the anchor line and started pulling my way.

Not everyone dove this location and about a third of the people on the boat didn’t dive this time. As I was the first one and there were a few people behind me but I made my way up to the 15 foot depth for my free minute safety stop. My dive computer actually starts calculating the safety stop time when I hit about 18 feet of depth. It counts down three minutes at that point and I just have to wait for the time to be zero. I was right under the boat and normally wait underwater until everybody on the surface re-boards so I can make my way up and board the boat myself. I was somewhat surprised as I had started getting a chill underwater though I was wearing my Shorty wetsuit.
